My ignition switch just bit the big one. No springback and it feels funny (not ha ha) when I turn it. Of course it won't start. :(

Is this a dealer only item? If available aftermarket, which switch is better?

I did some quick archive searching, but didn't come up with a clear cut answer to that question.

Hopefully I can use my jumper cables to get her running... if not then my AAA membership fee will get justified.

Stuck there huh?

Jay,

Best advice,,,,,stay there. Yep! Your probably in the "Dog House" anyway from buying up all them, turbo parts/silicone hose/elbows/intake horn this close to the holiday.

That and the fact that bad things happen it "threes" my friend. Mr. Murphy aint through with you yet. So just sit tight cause we don't want no part in that!

Beside, you go driv'n 'round like that, Mr. Murphy ain't gonna nun-to-pleezed and your liable to have a fender bender like West Coast did :(

Happy to be of help :-laf

Right on that one. ;)

$24 at the dealer for the switch... . but I'll have to hoof it till friday.

Took everything apart and found that the key cylinder is the problem... .

after we finally got it out, there were some little chunks that came out too.

Oh well. . at least I can plug in the harness and use the truck untill the parts come in...

Won't start

I have on occassion used a jumper to supply voltage to the run solonoid at the pump and then used a momentary jumper to engage the starter. The black cube harness plug on the inner fender that controls the start is the one to momentary jump. This will require some 'probing' if you don't have a schematic, but it works. There is power to the cube and you will only need about two inches of small wire, even a paper clip to shunt power to the starter engagment solonoid. But sounds like you are rolling.

Should you ever do this, if your truck is manual, be double certain that it is out of gear with the brake set as you are bypassing the interlock and the cummiins will be instantly running when you touch the right connection. Murphy will be happy to demonstrate what happens if you forget this.
