AFE Pro Dry S - Replacement

Testing was done by Brett and Cody on their trucks for the Silver Bullet. I did some of the testing for the Super Phat Shaft 66/80. I loved the SPS66/80 that I had on which became the current production. Then I finally changed out my turbo with the Silver Bullet turbo. Wow I told myself, I should have done that earlier. It does like fuel and will spool great if the tuning is right. Thanks

Brett pointed out a key issue for whichever brand or size turbo you pick. As the turbo gets bigger compared to our relatively small displacement engines, a hard shot of fuel helps spooling quite a bit. If you have a 215 hp version of 12 valve with a #10 torque plate, it will make 350 hp but not kick start a big turbo very well. A common rail with its high pressure, with just injectors or an EZ box, will kick the turbo harder to start it spooling.

It is also a mistake, imho, to expect a big turbo with big wheels to spool instantly. Such a rate of spooling means it will go to the moon once you really make the power.

But some people seem to think any turbo this size should spool like an HY-9 with 300 hp worth of fuel and gripe because it doesn't. Mine is great once it's rolling but doesn't spool hard at 1500 RPM, that's why my light throttle shifts are as high as they are.

what is the type of trucks maily using the Silver Bullet? do most pullers/ 1/4 mile guys alter the turbo to get a little more?

what engine mods should I be looking into with a Silver Bullet? Im running a +0. 010 over marine gasket & O-rings & Studs?

Thanks guys! great info!!

i just bought a silver bullet, can't wait to get it on the truck.

i made 500hp with 150 sticks and a B1, so im hoping with my silver bullet, and the 200hp sticks i'll have quite an increase. i dont quite think i'll reach 600... but 575 would be good

Ian, the silver bullet does pretty well at the smaller pulls, but just not big enough for the big pulls. THe Dmax already breathes so well and most guys run the aurora 5k on them, which is a larger charger. The s300's are great for a truck that needs to serve dual purpose. I just know that any of the pulls I went to pretty much most of the big boys were running a minimum 2. 8 charger the s300 gives a very respectable performance, but just won't get the big stuff done.

Example

IRP 2006 16th

Scheid 2006 20th(I think)

If your not looking for big rpm the s300's are a good option.

BTW I have a . 020, orings, and studs. Zero issues, popped a few freeze plugs out of the head, but that is it.

excellent turbo, did 570 at fall brawl 2006. I believe it has one extra fin on the wheel, dont quote me but i think it has 13fins and the sps 66 has 12 , shane told me thats what helps the silver bullet spool just a bit quicker . . hope this helps , good luck

we have had a silver bullet on our shop truck for about a year and a half now and wouldnt trade it for the world. we have thrown tons of fuel at it and it has always cleaned it up as soon as we get boost. it has taken a beating to say the least. and has never let us down.

i have a SPS 66 being built for my everyday driver right now and i will report back as soon as i get it.

anyway you look at it you cant go wrong with an Industrial Injection turbo.

Just a little heads up with the Silver Bullet turbo. Shane has came up with a very cool mod. for this turbo. I am still testing it but so far it looks very good. It has to do with spool up and compressor surge. It looks like both are much better. I will tell you all when I get back from NASCAR in Las Vegas this week. Towing the trailer down and will be testing all the way. Thanks

man o man i love this sps66. i dont know why i waited so long this thing is just insane. i couldnt have asked for a better turbo to fit my set up andhere it is, II SPS66,II 3 flow injectors, smarty wild, modded fass, SBC OFE, i can honestly say this truck still drives like its stock when your not on the go pedal. but if you are hold on, it takes no time for this thing to lite on my truck. EGTS havent gone over 1250 yet and i have been on the highway at 110 mph with my foot to the floor. i have to say it again WOW. i have to give a big thanks to all of the guys over at Industrial Injection on this one. thanks guys.

I've had an original SPS 66 for 2. 5 years now and have put it through the ringer. The only I have changed is I jumped to a ported exhaust housing to control the max boost on the bottle.

OK, I have tested the the upgrade that Shane has put on my truck. Towed a very heavy trailer to NASCAR in Las Vegas. The COMP. SURGE is GONE. Nice job Shane! However I want to try a very slight variation to make it even better. Tested the turbo through the complete RPM range and at all fueling levels and throtle positions. Not even a hint of surge. The turbo on my truck is a Silver Bullet but we could incorporate this in our SPS66/14 also.

Brady, I would be more than willing to R&D the one your testing in the 12V form if you needed that info. Would like to find the window to upgrade mine to a Bullet sometime, I think 700 on #2 would be a nice round number :)
