I'm finally getting rid of my POS 6. 0 PSD and will be getting a real truck shortly. Question, I want to start off by working on lowering EGT's. I'm either going to get an '06 or an '07 and from what I understand it has a cat.

I'm going to stay with the stock exhaust, but I'm thinking of dropping the cat and adding a high flow muffler. Not sure I want a straight exhaust because of the added noise.

What setups do most of ya'll have and what is recommended to lower EGT's. Can't wait till I'm driving off the lot in my new CTD!

Smart move getting rid of your power joke/stroke... Magnaflow and Donaldson are good sounding mufflers. I'm not sure how a Aero muffler would sound because I've never heard one, but that would be another good option for the cat delete... Welcome to TDR and sure hope you enjoy your new truck as much as I've enjoyed mine... 118,000 miles and as powerful as ever... "knock on wood"...

you might try a cat delete pipe (mbrp) in place of the cat, and a mbrp replacement muffler. Not too loud, but not restrictive at all. Total cost should be around $200.

I did a straight pipe in place of the cat and a Walker diesel muffler model number 21471 from NAPA. Muffler was $80. It's louder than stock with no tinny sound or resonance in the cab. Sounds great.

Nice first post. Welcome to the TDR. Oo.

I have also heard good things about the donaldson.

I also forgot to ask... . what about back pressure with the Holset turbo? Is the cat retention necessary or not? I'm sure it's not, but wanted to ask those who have already 'been there and done that' :-laf

I ditched the cat and run the mbrp in place of the stock muffler and the cat, keeping the factory tail pipe. Sound is sweet and reduction in egt. Thats the way I'd go again, also no drone. Just my . 02. Thanks, Nick.

p. s. welcome to TDR.

This Sunday I installed the Rokktech "Silent Might". It is a straight through 4" I. D.

I kept the cat and the resonator on (Mega cab) and installed it in the "quiet" position.

It is so quiet I would be hard pressed to tell it had been changed if someone was to swap it and not tell me. Just a little more rumble between 1200-1400 rpm (very pleasant rumble actually) and a slightly different tone as you rev it higher. NO DRONE anywhere. The turbo spools slightly quicker, but most noticeable is that it (the turbo)looses rpm slower between shifts of the 6 speed, making around town driving a lot more smooth and enjoyable. If you want a little more noise, they say to flip it around

"backwards". I love it.

Ark, What year was your POS PSD? I have an 06 that has been a PIA, blown turbo / metal in engine -on and on. . Did you get a F*rd buyback? Details in a PM would be great if you would like to share... .

As soon as I get the buyback, I hope the 2500 CTD 06 on the lot is still there. that I have my eye on...

Thanks, Luke

Luke,

No buyback unfortunately. The truck has 127K miles on it and is an '04. Ford could give a rat's arse as to the problems that I'm having to be honest.
