Here I am

I'm a bit suspicious of Home Run Fantasy

They seem to want a lot of personal information. Why do they require a *business* phone number? According to their rules:

"Winners will be notified by overnight mail and/or email on or about 9 days following the end of the period. "

Also there is no privacy statement at all. I canceled out of the registration.

and why did I get an email from the TDR pushing it. There is something to it, but I dont know what. Maybe Homerun Derby bought the TDR?

Guys, it's not all about $$. Robert came across Athlon from another site and thought the members would enjoy it. He paid Athlon to run it and has to pay them for every member that signs up. It's costing him money for you guys to be able to play it and he's doing it as a service.

I just deleted it thinking, what the heck does this have to do with

CTDs? I mean heck I get enough of this crap from the weenies at

the office. Get back to TDR stuff not some stupid fake sports crap.

Nothing To Be Suspicious About

No, we haven't sold or been sold to Fantasy Sports/Athlon Sports or anyone else.

I sincerely apologize to any of you who feel offended or irritated by this gesture. We thought it would simply be a lot of fun. There is nothing covert about it. We couldn't afford much customization by Athlon Sports, so we kept the default registration screens that ask for address, etc. No advertiser has paid anything toward this project. This is not an advertising ploy.

Additionally, we have absolutely no plans to use, share or sell that information. It was simply the most affordable way to offer what we felt would be a fun benefit to the TDR members.

If you did not receive an email from us, it was probably caught in anti-spam software (or we could have an incorrect email on file).

We tried to offer fantasy racing but we were too late in the season, and the cost was very high to offer that option.

Again, we intended this as clean fun. It is unfortunate when good intentions are crowded out by cynicism. Oh well. We'll keep trying.

I signed up and made my picks already. Thanks for taking the time to offer something "different". This will hold me over until my Fantasy Football league starts @ work. Its not even about the prizes, its just for fun! So guess that makes me a "weenie at the office".

Robin,

Additionally, we have absolutely no plans to use, share or sell that information.

I don't care if TDR has my address and phone number, because I trust TDR. It's what Athlon Sports wants it for that worries me. Since the window that opens when you go to register has Athlon's name on it instead of TDR, I figure they are getting that information since they are the host. So the question still remains, why do they need a business phone number. Thats all I need is to be receiving calls at work from an online gaming company. I bet the boss would just love that.

I'd like to sign-up and give it a try, but I won't do it as long as the above scenario is possible.

Okay, well I tried to tell you guys it was on the up and up, but would yall listen... . Nope? Had to get all paranoid and defensive :)

I'd play but i HATE BASEBALL, next time lets do some collegefootball stuff where I can win it all like my LSU tigers :)

TDR being bought by Athlon... whoever tried to start that ought to be beaten and throwed off the site :)

It's the same thing as with anything. IF IT OFFENDS. OR YOU DON'T TRUST IT OR YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT IT SAYS,Don't listen, read,or talk or whatever. Nobody says you half to follow the heard!

If you win ... ... what do you win? And if you dont know nothing about baseball then how do you play?

Taken from the Home Page information :

First, the game will be fun and is offered as a thank you to TDR members. Second, it is a member-only game, thus differentiating TDR members from site watchers. Third, we hope it will encourage TDR members that have not activated an on-line account to do so. Fourth, it drives traffic to the TDR web site during the summer months when it is typically a slow period. Fifth, the home page for the game will offer an area for our advertisers to do a 50-word press release and hot link. Thus, a service and a thank you to our advertisers.

Athlon Sports will manage the game. Every TDR member is invited to play. To participate, each person will select a team of eight players, one player from each of eight groups from a specified list provided by Athlon Sports. The selection of your team will be opened up in early to mid July. Mark your calendars to join us at the TDR web site to make your player selections.

The total number of home runs hit during a two week period by the eight players will determine your team’s score. Should you wish to trade-out your players, you can do so only after the completion of a two week period. The game will be played from July 26 until the end of the regular season (week of October 4), so you’ll have a chance to tradeout players five times in the 12 week Home Run Fantasy time.

At the conclusion of the baseball season, the team with the most home runs wins the grand prize. There will be prizes for first through tenth place.

1st - 5th place - TDR Embroidered Leather Jacket

6th - 10th place - One additional year's subscription to the Turbo Diesel Register

Each two-week round winner - One additional year's subscription to the Turbo Diesel Register

Batter up and have fun!

Do it blind. It doesn't cost you a penny to play so who cares if the picks are no good. Just get in there and pick some hitters.
