Those further to the left than me believe that the Federal govt. should have sovereignty over everything the states do. My own position is a middle ground - there are certain things the Feds must do, and others that the states must do. Each of us has his or her own opinion as to exactly what those things are. I'm just angry at the hypocrisy of the Right in pushing for states rights as being overarching - until a state or two starts doing things the Right doesn't agree with, at which time they start mentioning things like Constitutional Amendments - in other words, having the Federal govt. trump those awful state laws.

Each of us has his or her own opinion as to exactly what those things are.

And that is exactly the problem. We have a federal Constitution that should be followed to determine "exactly what those things are. "

States rights following the Constitution of the Confederacy would be fine with me. The true story of the war for Southern Independence was about states rights. And can be found in books like 'The South was Right' , ' The Real Lincoln' and 'Southern by Grace' available on the aw shucks website. History is taught in Publick skools by the victor of the war so they tend to have the school books written the way they want people to see things. All you have to do is read the debate speeches by Lincoln and Stephen Douglas in 1858 to see what Lincoln was really about.

While I agree with most of what the South was fighting for, Lincoln would have never went to war, if the South would not have fired on the Uinon first. They put him into a corner.

If anyone would have stepped back and looked at what they were up against, they never would have fired that shot.

Anyway, it never made much sesne to me to have a "union' that you had to force the members to stay in.

Is it written somewhere that a state can't leave the Union?

Kind of goes against the original intentions of 1776,IMHO.

Read the history books now, if yo uwant to se some distortion.

Lincoln goaded the south into firing on Ft Sumter by claiming he was bringing in guns, ammunition, and men in the ships blockading the area. The ships actually contained food. He intentionally set them up so they would fire on Sumter. There have been many books written on this. He put them into a corner as the southern leaders had told him that if he armed that fort they would fire on it. Lincoln left them no choice he made it look as if he were arming it to draw their fire and intentionally had food on the ships so he could use that as his reason for requesting war. And you are correct. It's not a union if they are forced into it. Lincoln didn't want the south succeeding due to their wealth and goods that he needed for the north. The South was a large and prosperous manufacturing region before the war. He stated many times that he wanted a centralized government. And it does go against the original document written in 1776. Even the wording in the modern dictionaries has been changed from what they meant when that doc was written. Look at a 1885 dictionary compared to a current one. Lincoln himself was not even against slavery. He was for it in the North. The proclamation was only for the succeeded states. He was an admitted white suppremist and wanted all blacks or inferior races as he called them shipped back to Africa. Robert E Lee was against slavery. General Grant was a slave holder. Jefferson Davis had an adopted black son. I have a pretty large collection of books written back in the early 1900s and late 1880s by people in the south that suffered during the 12 years following the War for Southern Independence. General Order #11 wasn't the half of it. Lincoln imprisoned over 1000 people from the north that opposed his views. many of them were Northern Senators and politicians. When he tried his tactic of claiming the war was to end slavery a huge group of northern people rioted over it. He had the Union Army travel back up into the North and fire onto their own killing from 300 to 3000 people. No-one has been able to find exactly how many were murdered. Couldn't imagine why.

The fact that we have to claim state income tax refund (from the previous year) as income and PAY taxes on it again!!! That is ****ed up!!

Hey old buddy! The fact is, you never paid taxes on the refund portion in the 1st place. Trust me, I've studied these things long and hard. And, don't sweat it. PM me if you care for me to explain.

Just don't write off state taxes withheld. Then you won't have to claim it next year.

These conversations are crossing state lines, thus fall under the interstate commerce clause of the constitution. Y'all need to pay me taxes, $. 01 per letter that you type.

Where in the constitution are the words "Separation of Church and State"?

You can't goad me into firing first, if the South truly wanted peace they would have waited for the North to invade. They just like the North thought they would win in a couple weeks.

Where were all the manufacturing facilities in the South?
