Hello all,

This mainly addresses anyone with a g56 trans. HOW DID YOU GET THE CLUTCH TO STOP CLICKING AND POPPING!!!!!

Over the last 3 months there has been a clicking and popping coming from inside the truck at the clutch pedal. Over time it has begun to get louder and i can now feel it in the pedal when i get to the floor and start to come back off the clutch.

I have replaced the pin that holds the master slave rod to the pedal, i have replaced the pin, 4 bushings and 2 c-clips at the top where the clutch pedal attaches to the brake/fuel pedal assembly and no luck!!!!

My last and next option is to order a South bend hydro assembly as it comes with the safety switch. My current hydro kit is only 16 months old and I have emailed valair 3-4 times trying to work something out with them as its just outside the warranty and started a month after the warranty period ended. I have not heard back from them and do not want to pester and be the annoying truck guy when they are really a superb company. I am just choosing South bend as it comes with the safety switch for only 40$ more than Valair.

What are your thoughts on what might be the issue or the cause???!!!!???

I don't have a g56, but suggest including g56 in your post header. it will attract folks with g56s who can possibly help you. Good luck Ron

Well I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like you have wear on the "Retainer Quil Tube", if thats what its called, which is what the throwout bearing rides on. You will have to pull the trans to inspect that. Which means you might as well do a clutch job as well. As you let out on the clutch the throwout bearing housing will get cockeyed and catch which you feel in the pedal. How many miles? Fill out signature.

Thanks for the advice RVTRKN, but already ahead of you on that 1 and checked it out as 1 of my instructors suggested that might be an issue but after checking its not. Issue is local to the clutch pedal inside the cab. I am going to take it apart next week and double check everything and use axle grease instead of the white lithium stuff.

Other than this popping there is no issue with the clutch itself or the trans and the Clutch is new as of last May 2017.

Any other ideas from anyone? I would change the posting title but it wont let me so I am down to changing the hydraulics to see if that fixes the issue.

I had that problem on my 98.5. I hit the pin with some Teflon grease and that seem to work for the next 50K+ miles. Don't put to much on as your don't want it dripping on your shoes unless all you wear is work boots. :)

are you talking the pin that the master cylinder rod rides on connected to the pedal or the pin that holds the pedal to the brake assembly?

There is a pin that has 2 plastic bushings that goes between the brake pedal and the body work. I lubed that with teflon grease. That stopped the squeak for a long time.
