Stacking water methanol injection

My new Cummins nightlight

Ok, I spent the better part of the night reading about different power boxes on previous posts, in fact I'm gettin' drowsy. I have a few parameters that are VERY important... . so I'll ask for some recommendations from the guys that know. This is an 04. 5 NV5600 DRW Laramie with no cat and magnaflow exhaust...

1. I only need towing power... I already have a racecar so I won't be stacking.

2. I tow REALLY heavy in the mountains so I want a built in monitor (ie attitude, outlook, banks PDA) that measures EGT's.

3. I would enjoy keeping my warantee at 40K.

4. I don't care about cost... . Although I buy banks and bullydog cheap.

If somenone could explain the disadvantages of pressure and timing boxes and which box is which that would be a plus... I have a Roktech on the truck but have the old sensor and can take or leave it as required. Thanks guys... would like to get this over with and move on.

I would recommend the smarty for your truck. There are really no disadvantages to pressure boxes unless they run too much pressure which can dammage injectors which I have seen more than a few times. Timming on the other hand is your friend and there is really no down side to timming. BUT I will say that it is all in how it is configured. Increasing timing usually yields better MPG and power. The smarty is a nice programmer or d/l as others say. it is adjustable and you should not have a problem with warrantee. Since your truck is stick, I would tell you to try the 30,60, and 90 ho setting w/timing. The rocktec sensor I believe adds like 2-3 degrees with should not be a problem. Also w/ the smarty, you can go to their website and have up to date pograms at all times. Search for the smarty on the 3rd gen forums and you can read-up on them.

You said that you want to keep the warranty..... the only power adder that makes that possible & is completely undetectable is smarty. It is your best bet for pulling power too. It gives most of its power right off idle... . problem is that it has no gauges. My personal opinion is that banks is for danks, but that is just my opinion. I wouldn't go that route again..... tried it hated it & got rid of it. The edge w/attitude is a nice tuner & very reasonably priced... . it adds a nice boost of power & the switch on the fly is awesome. Same with Bullydog... . good power & outlook is awesome. You really can't go wrong with any of these tuners, but the TST is still a awesome box that is gonna give you the most power. All of them are great & the technology of each have their +/-. I think that the best choice for a guy who tows is still the Smarty..... you can always get a attitude monitor or outlook to watch egts.

Edge Juice with Attitude

FASTER... - Based on the criteria you described, I think the EDGE Juice with Attitude monitor would be the one. The Juice / Attitude has 5 levels of power, the monitor capabilty and defueling protection you can taylor to your needs. I started with an EDGE EZ, which was just OK. The EZ is a pressure box and many have indicated prolonged high press can damage the injectors.

My next step was the Juice with Attitude and felt it was a great addition both for the power and the on-the-fly adjustibilty. I eventually got the "Hot" version upgrade which will require other upgrades like a turbo, clutch or modified auto trans and etc.

I also have the Smarty which is good also, however, I really miss the on the go adjustibilty with it. The Smarty has some great power and non-detectibily but you'll need a set of guages to monitor the engine distress level.

Sometimes I'll run the Smarty alone or with the EZ pressure box but mostly for around town and general use I run my Juice / Attitude. The Smarty takes about 5 minutes to download the program to your truck and the same to unload it. It also can read and display check engine codes and can erase them as well as correct for different tire sizes, (a great bonus).

I understand MADS Electronics will be adding more power and features to the Smarty as time progresses.

One thought - The Juice/Attiude install requires an EGT probe in the exhaust and takes a little effort to hook up the electical connections which is a disadvantage if you need to remove it for dealer service. I removed it only once for a dealer service and put my analog EGT guage in the back in to keep the dealer from questioning the hole in my exhaust manifold. Now I'm so heavily modded that I'm my own warranty station. Hope this helps. :)

Then leave it stock. Nobody warranted your meddling with power enhancers.

Beyond that, power mods are a very personal choice.

Blah Blah Blah... . I said I would like to keep it... did not say I had to. As for the "personal choice" I want to buy a box based on the parameters listed not join a dating service. If U have any informative input I would be grateful, however your response was non-responsive. :-{}

If you truly want towing power without any worry about tearing something up or having the ability to turn the truck up to a level that you rmight sacrifice the transmission or something else then look at this:

http://www.quadzillapower.com/products/xzillaraider_xzt.html

Coupled with this:

http://www.quadzillapower.com/products/commander.html

Adding the monitor make it adjustable from 0-25-45-65hp gains. You can automatically set de-fueling parameters and warnings for anything it monitors. You can also add lift pump pressure and rail pressure to the monitor for a few bucks more. This is accurate rail pressure not fooled rail pressure as shown on the data bus.

Sure there is plenty of more glamorous way to add the power and we even make product that has a lot more power but, this part was designed for towing, low egt's and good fuel mileage. On its own it is a no frills module but, with the Commander it has as good or better features than anything you compare it to.

It is very easy to take off and does not leave any footprints on the ECM although we do not condone anything concerning fraud.

The Smarty is a nice piece but, if you turn it up it will fry your stock transmission. It also does not have built in monitoring for towing.

The Edge is also nice but at the same time for towing you are only going to be using levels 1 or 2 if you want to keep a stock transmission for very long when you are towing heavy.

So if you truly want towing power without the chance of hurting something then the XZT/Commander combo fits the bill perfectly as that is exactly what it is designed to do.

Thank U very much... . Can I mount your pillar pod with the factory grab handle? I was also wondering if there was a provision by which true oil pressure could be monitored as it is my understanding that we are operating on a sophisticated dummy light?

I didn't mean to get everyone wound up about the warranty issue. I haul every weekend from march to september and will use the next 30K up in about a year.

Thanks again for the informative reply

I personally run the banks 6 gun with speedloader option, stacked with a quadzilla boost fooler monitoring with dakota digital gauges. I personally have just removed my banks 6 gun box only and replaced it with the included banks bypass plug and noticed improved power over the stock setting of the 6 gun (6 gun off position level 1). I only did this cuz i didn't want the truck service shop hot roding my truck in the level 6 position while they had it cuz It does take off quicker than a medium or heavy duty truck they normally work on. Too be honest with you I liked towing with the 6 gun but I do have my gremilins since I bought the banks used on ebay. whatever you do don't buy this kind of stuff used on ebay or at all on ebay cuz u may not get a warranty from the tuner manufacturer. Luckily banks was good to me

Best box for towing & power

Go with the SMARTY. I tow a 10. 5k skid loader and the SMARTY by far has given me the best towing experience. Since $$$ is the biggest deal then buy your gauges separately from this DL and get a good set of "A" pillars. The dealer won't say squat about your gauges and you can have your SMARTY off the truck and undetectible in abt 5 mins. This meets all your criteria and Marco is always making the product better and you can download the latest and greatest for NO extra charge.

Geeez,... if I didn't already have one I'd go buy it with the above reasoning. :-laf :-laf :-laf

FASTERTHANU.

I have the Quad Zillaraider STD, which is a step up from the XZT, 30-60-90. I am very pleased thus far with it's performance. The Quad products are made well and as you can see Quad is right here to answer your questions. I have gauges, so I do not have the Commander, but if I were doing things again I probably WOULD have the Commander. I like the concept of having the ability to change things on-the-fly. I also have the Smarty. The two together make and excellent stack. I have the Smarty on the #2 program w/o timing and use the Quad when I want more.

Here's what mine looks like installed (scroll down in the thread to see the pic). I've got the "Race" box but if your going to tow... use the module "Quad" suggested. You can get more of your questions answered by calling Jeremy @ Quad personally. He's been great to work with. I really like my "box" and the Monitor. Great combo. Good customer service (with Jeremy anyway... :D ) and the price is right. 1-2-3. There you have it! :-laf

I have run the QZilla XZT and for the most part, I liked it. I did have one issue that may have been caused by the box, so I switched. From time to time I would start the engine, and it would immediately rev to 3k RPM and spew black smoke, then die. Scared the crap out of me. I now run a Van Aaken C3. 2 and love it. I have been running it for about 6 months now with zero problems. I love the fact that it doesn't modify rail pressures and has the boost fooler. No monitoring, but I added the overhead 2 gauge pod over the rear view mirror. With that said, it won't give you the power of the TST, or the Edge Juice, but it is very seemless and smooth and a very noticeable power increase. My EGT's are reasonable too. Just a thought.

The few parameters you listed leaves a dozen options available to you. People choose different options for different reasons, that makes it a very personal choice. However, if you had made a tight enough parameter listing to narrow your choices to 1 or 2 boxes, your decision would have been made. You have asked for and gotten personal opinions on boxes and options.

How many wires get tapped with the quad box?

Bob

There are no wires tapped with the module.

On the Commander we tap the coolant sensor and then we tap the MAP sensor. Now if you have our module or another module you will tap the modules wiring harness to get the correct reading. If you have a stock truck you will need to tap the stock wiring harness.

The nice thing about the Commander is that you can un-install the module and still have the gauges working 100%. It is a stand alone gauge that has the smarts to de-fuel and change power levels when you hook a module up to it.

Qzilla,

I have got to admit, I like that you are right here on the forum answering questions about your products. So here is another:

I have the Commander installed with an a-pillar pod and both are great. I tapped the stock MAP sensor wire and coolant temperature wire as shown in the instructions. I installed the fuel pressure guage and had a problem where the engine stalled on me and then wouldn't run. I had at that time had the fuel pressure portion of the guage installed for about a week, and had been reading only 3 to 4 PSI for the low pressure side. This seemed awfully low to me and I actually wondered whether I had a fuel pump problem. The truck is otherwise totally stock.

When the truck stalled, I got a bunch of codes including low fuel pressure. The next morning I took off the fuel pressure guage sending unit for the Commander and the truck started - though I am the first to admit that I do not know that it was the problem. I took it to the dealer under warranty and they reflashed the computer but did nothing else. The truck has been fine since.

I tow a 12,000 pound fifth wheel and am probably the worlds most careful driver of my truck - easy on the throttle, the brakes, warm up, warm down, etc. - especially with the trailer on. Though there are a lot of careful guys on here.

I'd like to try an XZT for towing, but I am nervous about adding back the fuel pressure unit or messing with the fuel pressure wires. Can I plug the XZT into my Commander even without the fuel pressure kit attached, or does the XZT need the fuel pressure data from that wiriing harness?

Thanks in advance...

Greg
