Well, after one missile attack, a few sand storms, thunderstorms with hail, one Marine jet off the runway, and replacing about 2400 feet of runway, I am back from my deployment to Afghanistan. Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan isn't that bad of a place, it's just that the country is in a survival mode from when the Russians were there. Things are slowly improving there, and we are for the most part, appreciated by the locals. The one missile attack that happened in July that was in the news, but not was not told correctly could have been worse. The location that it hit was occupied by an A-10 Warthog only 5 min before. That could have been a lot worse than what it ended up being. The sand storms were expected because of the environment there. The thunderstorms surprised me, but after they came through, it felt pretty nice there. The hail didn't damage anything, but looked odd being in the desert. The Marine jet we still wonder what happened. The replacing of 2400 feet of runway was a job that many people that I worked with can be proud they say that they worked on. To know that we can get planes up and down safer and to the fight quicker is a great feeling.
We will be there for many years to come, and will be able to make it a good country again.
Oh yeah, it's great to be some what home again. Now the next trip is to move back to the states in January to Oklahoma.
