Well as the title states I will be leaving you guys(sorta). I am buying an '03 Jetta TDI as my daily driver because the 45 mile commute each way to work isn't logical in the Cummins. But no fear, I should still be lurking around here, my Dad has loved my truck since I bought it, so he is taking it and selling his 91. 5(in the classifieds). I think I will still continue to renew w/TDR because I honestly don't know what I would do with my time if I couldn't check the site 30 times a day!

I never thought I would see the day when I didn't need a truck, but that day is here. I have never driven a car as a daily driver, so this should be like learning how to drive all over again.

Shame on you! Who said driving a Cummins truck is always logical? We do it because we love 'em! :D

Stop in and say hi once in a while.

We'll miss you. Stop by and chat now & then.

When circumstances change & you buy another first-gen, we'll still be here.

Regards, DBF

I definitely will stop in and say hi once in awhile, most likely asking questions for my Dad.
Maybe I should not have said logical, but economical. :)

I understand as the wife drives a 99. 5 Jetta TDI... . that 45 miles will only cost you (not quite) a gallon of #2.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. I work in Cleveland, but really don't want to move up that way, so this TDI should help me out.

I hope I'm back within 6 months, but I doubt it.

I left the flock in 2000 for a shiney new 2001 quadcab, then I bought a shiney new 2003 quadcab in 2003. Came back to the flock in 2005. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Those are pics of the car I bought. It's a pretty car. This is gonna sound stupid, but I opened the trunk and stood there for about 5 minutes thinking about what I could possibly put into it. This is the first car I have ever had as a daily driver and the thought of having a trunk to put stuff in mystifies me!!!

Years ago I bought a VW Rabbit diesel. It got great fuel mileage. Not turboed, of course. I wonder If VW changed the fuseable link for the glow plugs? On the '79 Rabbit it was located on the firewall in the center, in a small plastic enclosure. A small strip of aluminum, they burnt out regularly. No glowplugs, NO START. One thing you can put in your trunk is a tool set, jumper cables and a set of radial tire chains. Cold weather gear for winter driving emergencys. GregH

I had an opportunity..

One of my employees was using my Goat to deliver engines the other nite, so he let me take his 07 Rabbit home for interest sake. It's got a 5cyl gasser. (yuck) A rogue White pine log came off a truck and wiped out his 04 Jetta TDI, and the ins. wouldn't pay enough to buy another diesel, so he went for a Wabbit. Let me tell ya, I love my Goat, and would never be a car guy, but that lil' V-dub is a weapon... . would be in jail ifit were my car... ... my Cummins keeps me in the safe speed zone, the black and whites just look right past me...

... . then again, I only gotta drive 12 miles to work... you'll enjoy the Jetta, and miss the Dodge all at the same time... ;)

No worries

Don't feel like your the only one, I too bought an '03 Jetta TDI basically because I wanted another Diesel to replace my daily driver (Ford Ranger) and to see if the fuel milage was what they say it is. However, unlike yourself, instead of getting rid of my First Gen, I bought another one:rolleyes: I never thought that I would see the day where I drove a car. You said that you thought that you wouldn't be able to fit anything in the trunk, well, you can really pack some stuff in there. :-laf I've borrowed more than one 2x4 from work. :-laf All I can say is that it has got to be one of, if not the cheape$t car that there is to drive. Also, its a Diesel, you can bomb it:D I just got my Van Aaken for it. :-laf You'll love it.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I actually have some good news, apparently my Dad is going to take my truck and my brother(who is 15 1/2) wants my Dad's 91. 5, so they are all staying in the family!!

Hey Dieselman359, which one are you driving to SOP this year? Or are you going to load the Jetter on the back of the truck as breakdown insurance? :-laf

Which one?

Well, I guess that it depends on which vehicles are running. I actually just got the Jetta going tonight after the intercooler pipe blew off the intercooler and into a pulley. You see the problem being that the pipe is plastic:mad: and the pulley tore a large gash in it, so no boost. The pump is off the D truck, so with that being said, I sure am glad that I bought that ol' wore-out W truck. Oh, and I can't believe how much more fuel I used not driving the Jetta. :{

You send the D truck's pump to NE? I bet you use a little more fuel in the 4x4 than in the Jetta. You ARE going to replace the intercooler pipe with an upgrade, right? Maybe, oh, I dunno, STEEL... .

biggieou- glad to see you are kinda getting to keep your 1stGen.

Daniel

Well for example, I once drove to NJ with a weekends full of gear for the wife and I PLUS I stopped off to pick up 4 1st gen rims... and trim rings.

All that fit with room to spare. LOL

And I still got 45+ mpg at 80 mph ;);)
