Some Grammar and Style Tips

What editor are you using Gary? There's an error I discovered a couple weeks ago in the WYSIWYG editor that causes problems with img src tags. I edited your post on there and resaved it and it went through no problem. I'm betting you are using the wysiwyg editor. Go to your control panel and change to either of the other editors.

DUNNO - I'm using my daughter's PC here in Lodi Ca... Screen looks the same as mine at home - we'll only be here thru Sunday - thanks Steve.

(EDIT)

Another "mystery" - just added another photo to same post, exactly the same way - worked fine, NO PC changes on this end...

I mean the control panel here. Pull down the discussion forum menu to user control panel and then click on edit options - you'll see the editor options towards the bottom. All I did was click on edit and resave your post - didn't make any changes.

NOPE - set to "standard editor", just like always...

Don't sweat it Steve - the board usage from here is only a temporary thing - had no problems like this on my own PC at home - forget it, and have a GREAT Holiday! :D :D

I get Image Server Down when I try and look at Navydood's pictures. I did what Steve recommended and it was set to standard already. I have tried on 3 different machines home and at work. Still no see pics. Anybody?

YUP - most of those are no-shows for me as well - and I'm still getting that message on lots of photos in other threads - dunno what's up, but nothing's different on this end...

F. Y. I. , I was able to view a few pics but they had image server in red below them with regard to navydood's post. My editor is set per directions above. The page took a long time to load, too. Go figure.

Keep in mind that in this particular case, and not knowing exactly what server the related oics are from, it MIGHT actually BE down, or the pics no longer there...

As far as I'm concerned, there IS a problem when trying to open some pics posted on this board, but this could be from another cause, and I'd hate to have it discovered that is the case, and and lose sight of the fact of the very real remaining problem does exist for some of us at least...

I suspect that the basic cause it timeout related, and that when some pics are pointed to for opening that take longer than a pre-specified time, the board's OS automatically flags them as unavailable and assigns a "server down" error message...

I've had the same problem in accessing NAVYDOOD's gauge install post. I was able to select the last page and, backing up read all but page 1 where i once again locked up and got the error message. I suspect you're right about the time out because of delay in loading the pictures but wonder why. I have DSL, not dial-up and normally don't have problems downloading pictures.

The problem on that gauge thread is navdood's ISP. He has all those pictures loaded on their server and their server is either refusing to let our server open those files to see what size the picture is or is metering out the file so slow that it's timing out. With so many pictures on that thread I couldn't even get the first page to open because it would time out my browser. I've changed all of the pictures to url links so that the thread is usable.

This is a completely different problem than what is talked about up top on this thread. I have our server setup to check the picture size of any pictures being linked to other servers and if they are oversized then it resizes them so that the formatting of the screen doesn't get screwed up. With vB3+ if a picture is wider than your screen then the entire page will get widened to that width forcing you to have to scroll left and right on your browser in order to be able to read the thread. With vB2 it would only resize that single post which was a pain but usable. With the entire thread widened it make it pretty much unusable. Many webmasters are just not allowing offsite picture linking because of this problem. I wrote the code to make this work but we run into problems with providers that firewall their servers from files being opened. It's a compromise.

There are reasons why some members use offsite photo hosts - I've stated my own in past threads - perhaps a thoughtful look into WHY some feel the need to use outside photo hosts, as well as ways this board might adapt would motivate less use of outside hosts...

And by the way, I get that same "server down" message on many photos hosted on THIS board - so it isn't just the offsite ones creating the error message - in fact, I sometimes have had to switch my photo pointer to an offsite host to AVOID that error... ;)
