Jeep CRD turbo noise HELP

A friend of mine shipped his cars from Germany after he retired from the military... If I could get my hands on a used '05 Jeep Grand cherokee with the diesel, how could I get it imported to minnesota? There's got to be some way around the red tape... .

Well, I just got through the looking at the requirements for the DOT and the EPA... holy crap... those enviro nuts and republicans have the import thing locked up pretty good... I may need a lawyer to help me find my way out...

It's a complicated PITA procedure to get a vehicle model into this country that wasn't originally sold here.

There are some sweet diesel Land Cruisers and Land Rovers in Canada that can't come here, too. :(

I drove one of those diesel grands at Camp Jeep in Missouri. Bosch people had it and let me take it off the grounds. I wanted to keep it, very nice. I know the gov has relaxed the grey market laws to allow a private citizen to import a car that was not made/sold here. You would have to find out if the diesel Jeep would qualify.

Well, I'd love to import one, but it looks like I'll have to get in contact with an importer- either way it looks like a major project... . Is it the same engine that is in the liberty? then a ICI could convert it so it meet emission regs... I wish Jeep would just ship the CRD JEEPs here... .

I know that race teams and ricer car enthusiasts import right-hand-drive cars (that we can't get in the states) from foreign countries through Canada...

It won't be cheap, though. You might be better off transplanting a diesel into a Jeep - something I'm doing with a '96 Grand Cherokee (amidst a lot of cuss words and patience... :-laf ).

Huh???? Don`t you mean Democrats, the ones who created the EPA?

The EPA has done some truly great things over the years. Unfortunately with administrations changing out every 4-8 years, their long-term goals can never be achieved. In addition, quite a few of their mandates and initiatives are extremely dated and/or conceived by people that have a vested interest in the success or failure of a number of businesses. Quite a few of these businesses save a lot of money by polluting just a little too much (or way too much... ). If we could stop people with cubic dollars from literally making (buying) their own laws - we might get somewhere.

If every company took it upon themselves to make efficient cars that exceeded emissions with ease - we wouldn't be in this mess. We've been burnt by half-baked attempts in the past at meeting emissions. Those poorly conceived ideas were always fueled by tightwad bean counters that were forced into trying to save a buck. Making efficient cars costs money - only now are 'they' finally seeing the light.

If you Imported your "damaged" diesel GC, bought a wrecked GC and used the parts from 2 vehicles to make one good vehicle.

Which VIN plate should you use if you take 2 vehicles to make one good one?

If you use the US spec VIN plates, you should be good to go.

If you use the VIN plates from the foreign spec GC you will have years of headaches & paperwork.

This is all theoritical of course, and your milage may vary.

The above post is how I have always wanted to do this, but only with Range Rovers. They too were offered with diesels and 5spd manuals across the Atlantic, but never over here. So I am planning on going to England, crating up a ton of Land Rover and Range Rover parts, sending them over to the US, then swapping everything into a US Spec vehicle. As long as there are no emissions requirements where you live, you should be good to go.

Im in Korea, and they have diesel jeeps here too. Im really not sure on what they cost, but shipping would be A couple of grand. I agree with the swapping of vin plates, should work.

Not sure if this helped any or not
