I have a 06 5.9/6spd and needed to downsize to a 1/2 ton. Bought a friends '14 with 75k miles the other day. Only Shaeffer oil since new. No emissions after 20k. good air filter. Straight 3in flo pro. 60hp ppei tune. sprint booster. edge insight. 2.5in fox suspension. 3.55
Drove it home on a 600 mile trip thru the washington/oregon high desert and mountains with a friend who has been a commercial diesel truck driver, hot shot etc for 30 years and zillions of miles. He wanted to buy my truck after he got to drive it and wouldnt give the wheel back to me!
Its an impressive little engine when it is allowed to breathe clean air and get rid of it easily. with the booster on race mode it had wild acceleration for passing for ecoboosts and would leave a long thick smoke trail in its wake. Out of curiosity I filled up after our first 400 miles of fun driving 70-85 mph and going in and out of race to stock throttle on the booster. 21.5 mpg and that was with too large and heavy tires ( 35x12.50). It liked to settle in at 78mph with those tires. I will put some 33.5x11.5 tires on next week.
I already have an eco - wife's GC - with 25k all stock and boring. I figured if I were to get one would find one that had been de-smogged early on and ran properly past the typical grenade zone miles. I am also a believer in the shaeffer oil as it dosent start to degrade until 300 deg whereas most others start at 240. The eco oil runs hot around 220 and hotter when towing. This might not be true but I am told so by some performance guys and running shaeffer isnt going to hurt either way. Not sure if I have much else to do to this rig other than probably put in a better oil cooler that will drop the oil down to 200 and below. And black out the eco part of the ecodiesel badge. I hate that name.
I am going to miss my 5.9 once gone but I think this little eco will be fun as it has some poop and acceleration but is still impressive on fuel consumption.
