Well finally I did it, installed the Edge Comp box this weekend but with no pump wire connection. Thanks Rod @ Wildcat Diesel for your patience and advice, also JHansen, Alex and Garth had some influence too. Anyways here's my impressions:

1. WOW - this thing flies now. Much better throttle response down low and still scares me at WOT after 3 days.

2. Sounds smoother, this was a surprise as I was prepared for more diesel knock from the advanced timing.

3. SMOKE - I got it big time in 1x5 :cool:, although it can be avoided by letting the turbo stay ahead of the throttle. It's nice to be able to leave big clouds when you feel like it though.

Basically I have no regrets buying this over the EZ. Slightly more $ and work to install but I love being able to adjust the smoke level, plus I have the option of tapping the pump wire down the road. I can't comment on boost or EGT as I don't have the Hewitt gauges in yet, this weekend I swear.

Thanks TDR - you've converted another one to the dark side!

Thanks for your comments. I am going to do the same eventually, and I was wondering if you had to break the void stickers on some of the wiring connectors, or if you can remove it without the dealer knowing it was there?

Here is the 64,000 dollar question: How long before you'll want to hook up that little wire???? I think Andrew (TXdieselkid) holds the record for like 1 year. Must be some kind of Buddist training or something like it to "abstain" so long... :)

Be strong week one! Avoid the force of the BOMB bug, use Raid. :D Let's see, the Texas rally was September 31 last year? So that would make it just about one year, 2 weeks from now. :D :( :{

mgoncalves - no void stickers as far as wiring, it just plugs into the MAP and data link connectors. However you have to cut off the factory crimp connector on the wastegate tube to the boost elbow and replace it with a hose clamp - this will be a telltale that you are or have been running higher boost. Also it would be a pain to remove the wiring in the engine bay and through the firewall.

Regarding the pump wire - I give it till next summer. I can't afford a clutch so I have to keep this one alive till next year. Once I get clutch money I'll put DDIII's, then once I can afford a bigger turbo I'll pierce the wire.

Bye bye bank account...

what does taping the pump wire do? i am planning on getting some kind of power enhancement soon i don't need alot just a little more kick but want to be able to have more available if needed.

Welcome to the TDR "Grasshopper":D

"Tapping the wire" (EZ Comp, or equivilent) adds mucho fueling in addition to the timing changes with a "minor" box such as the EZ.

With EZ Comp you get 5 power levels and 5 sub-levels for smoke management.

Gauges, especially Pyro/EGT are needed to monitor Exhaust Temps and such with these boxes.

Tapping results in Large change in the SOP meter (I've been told), and stress on stock drivetrain components, as well as affecting your warranty.

Try a search for EZ or Comp.
