2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Improvement for weak headlights?

I have Geno's Brite Box installed. Can the Summit harness still be used?

I have tried the Brite Box, the bigger bulbs, differant driving lights, even a flashlight strapped to the grill. However, the biggest, and best improvement that I have ever done to my truck , was the Sport headlights, and the harness from suvlights.com. Well worth all the money, cutting the fenders, and a few cool new tools. But of course that is my two cents.

What about using after market clear lenses that are for non sport models. I have found them at autopartswarehouse.com want to know if someone has done that instead of the fitting of the sport headlights in I was just wondering?

OK guys - I am ignorant to this but interested as I have an '07 (I have not driven it yet as I am in Iraq). Do these suffer the same problem? If so, does the same fix (Sport model lights) take care of it?

My 97 headlights still suck after the APC wiring harness for relaying the power from battery to lights for my stock headlights and bulbs. I still need to try waxing the lenses but I don't believe the lights will be much better and I have a set of aftermarket fog lights on my ranchhand front bumper. The bumper also blocks the headlight beam some.



This sport conversion sounds like the solution for me but its pricey. I will also look at salvage yards to find the sport lights to lower the cost somewhat. What year trucks should I look for to fit my 97? I assume my APC wiring harness will have to be replaced with one from suvlights for the dual filiment harness.

I think the below link is what you may be looking for. Certainly a LOT cheaper. I installed this kit on my truck and it made a noticable improvement.

I tried this kit a few years ago. Yes, it does make the lights just a "little" brighter. However, it created another problem. If you are running factory fog lamps it screws with your high beams. If your fog lights are on and you hit the high beams, no problem. When you flip the switch to go back to low beams, the fog lights come on and the high beams STAY ON! The only way you can get back to low beams is to kill the fog lights. Only then will you get back to the low beams.

I still have this kit on the truck and have no plans on removing it. I've just gotten used to the way it must be used. If anyone else drives my truck (wife), I have to remind them about this issue.

I have those on my 02, and they are a great improvement over the stock unit.

Lights like these, commonly referred to as "Sport Lights", are easily available on Ebay for about $120:

These, on my truck, GREATLY improved the lighting, even better after also installing supplemental wiring (heavier gauge) and relays that take the load off the somewhat weak OEM headlight switch, and allow headlight current to be drawn directly off the batteries.



In addition to weak headlights, the tail and backup lights are also pretty marginal - so another $60 or so - also from Ebay, bought these:

Those, along with added below-bumper backup lights - yeah, ANOTHER $10 Ebay item - put out nearly as much light to the REAR as the headlights do at the FRONT! :-laf:-laf

i too have used the upgraded wire kit that uses the relays and the battery with my stock lenses but i also added some hella 95/105w i belive off road bulbs that realy helped out my lighting

Ain't THAT the truth!



For some strange reason, builders in this area seem obsessed with small garages with individual doors, instead of doubles - so we lose a couple of feet of manuevering room between cars - actually, ours is larger than most later built homes, is fully insulated and heated - but with the work bench at the front of the garage, I only have about 5 inches space with the truck up against the bench, to get the garage door closed - prevents me from installing a good solid "Deer/Elk deflector" on the front, as is common and almost a necessity in this area.

That's what mine, pictured further above, are - and they work perfectly. I obviously quoted the wrong price in that post - sorry.
