Improving vapor propane systems

I have recently acquired a Bully Dog propane kit for a very reasonable price. The kit is new and complete. Here is my question; there have been several posts and discussions on the danger of vapor systems with temperature and pressure changes. I understand them. My interest in propane is for use when towing my new white horse trailer while not painting it black and for hot rodding similar to when you would use nitrous. I only plan to run propane during the show season so no cold weather use. So is there a way to improve my vapor system or should I just buck up and get a liquid system? I would like to maximize the power without having pre-detonation.

That's the problem with propane systems that essentially run "on" or "off", with no ability to regulate actual flow in relation to other engine operating parameters such as boost levels. The system I use carefully applies propane in a vapor form in direct proportion to the boost pressure - and further allows the user to tailor the "turn on" point to their individual preference. The hotrodders may prefer to have maximum available propane flow as soon as boost is seen by the engine, trailer towers may prefer the application of propane at a higher boost level. The PS2000 system is a PROPORTIONAL system that by design, avoids introducing instantaneous shock loads to your engine and drivetrain, and a nearly infinite adjustment of threshold/power levels.



I fully realize this doesn't help ther guy above - but it's good info for comparison as to how OTHER propane systems work...

I have the AD performance dual stage system. this system will flow either liquid or vapor but is geared more for liquid. Stage 1 is set to come in at 5 lbs of boost and that threshold is fully adjustable as is the amount of propane flowed when this stage is activated by the boost pressure. The second stage is set to come in at 15 lbs of boost, also adjustable, as is the amount flowed when this stage activates. The second stage allows max flow when there is enough boost to handle it. It still is best to run liquid, especially in cooler climates IMHO.

JIM - just to clarify your system - sure, the THRESHOLD activation setting IS adjustable, and I assume there is also a somewhat FIXED jetting that essentially flows the MAXIMUM FIXED level of propane AS SOON AS the threshold is reached. In other words, if your threshold setting is 10 lbs boost, the maximum flow IMMEDIATELY is applied, and CONTINUES to flow at that single FIXED rate until the boost falls back BELOW 10 lbs, at which point ALL further propane flow is stopped.



That is the "either fully off or on" aspect I was referring to, as opposed to a PROPORTIONAL flow that applies propane in DIRECT relation to boost levels. It's possible with the PS2000 system to adjust the threshold level at around 1 lb boost, and then steadily increment propane flow to the point FULL boost is reached - essentially an infinite, seamless proportional flow with NO jolts or sudden max application when that threshold is reached.



Just a clarification as I understand it - and NO, I don't sell the PS2000 systems - just a VERY satisfied user!

Yes you have got it pegged. The one significant difference in flow rate to this system vs any other accept the power shot is the second stage allowing you to break up the full flow into two separate levels. The power shot is definately a well designed system. The big reason I went the way I did is because I wanted a liquid setup. If that had not been a factor(liquid setup) then I more than likely would have gone for the power shot myself.

Thanks for the clarification on the 2-level setup Jim - a BIG improvement over a simple single stage off/on setup! The big advantage in the liquid setups vs vapor, is more power increase with vapor - but I don't think *I* could safely USE any more than I get with my setup!
