Temporary set back for T-Rex.

On Easter weekend I was debaching with family and friends in Billing, MT. Of course this included Viking style feasting including turkey legs, strong drink like ginger ale, and so forth.

Whilst there I coveted and purchased a bumper for my rig. The likelihood of hitting a deer/elk/moose versus a pothole being similar in Moran was the final straw which pushed the decision over the edge. The funds are squandered and I must once again begin the hoarding processes.

Attached (hopefully) are some pics of the Herd Bullbar from Australia http://www.herdbullbars.com

Materials: Aluminum with steel mounting brackets

Wt. - 124lbs.

Price - $1450. 00

Freight - $0. 00

Installation - Easy, once you overcome the apoplectic fit brought about by the OEM bumper bolts necessitating loosening the intercooler. Almost lost my salvation over this one, but have since repented. :)

Assessment:

1/4" aluminum. There is a 1/8" steel mounting bracket between the frame members which gives additional strength for a frontal assault. Feels solid and substantial.

Deer, Antelope, coyote, wolf, griz, b bear, tourist = poof.

Elk or Moose = should be no problem but I'll try not to test it.

Touristmobile = depends on size.

Bison or cow = totalled rig.

Criticisms and comparisons: The upper flange to match the 3 gen styling (underneath headlights) is basic and could be improved. The Buckstops are beautifully sculpted under headlights. I like the Buckstops but they are more weight than I would like to have on the front. Road Armor are too Star trek for my tastes and again too heavy. The Utes cost more than I am willing to spend and are probably real similar in strength. The DORs are more substantial if out of 3/8 and 1/2 aluminum, but no Gen3s, production is slow, and will be more expensive. Summary, I wanted the weight and "give" of an aluminum bumper, didn't want a winch on the front (although a winch model is available according to web stie),decent looking, and this was in my price range.

Wow I bet you can't wait to do it all over again when one of your headlight bulbs burn out:D . Just teasn',it must have taken the whole family to hold that up to be bolted.

That bumper looks SWEEET!!! :D By the time I get my 3G the DOR should be out, so I'll have to compare at that time, but this one is definitely toward the top of my list. Nice truck! :) Oh yeah, and is the bumper clearcoated? All that polished AL is going to be a pain to keep shiny if it's not.

Isn't wonderful to live in a place where salt is for putting on watermelon, apples, corn on the cob, and elk steak. :)

If anything would turn me into a conspiracy theorist it would be those municiple folks in kahoots with the auto companies to rust out my truck. #@$%! :{ Have to feel bad for the folks where it is so common place that they have to have a winter car and a summer car :(

I hope I don't have to use it for an elk stop. But I've had to come to a stop twice this month for elk in the road. One of the guys here with a gen2 smacked a moose this winter. I hate it when a critter gets hit. Such a waste of life.

Actually, what pushed me over the edge was the realization that the stock suspension is quite functional but the stock bumper is no where near being functional.

Well said rationalization.
