Gentlemen, Picked up this 92 350 auto for a back up truck, but am slowly falling in love with the mpg's it gets! No fooling, keeping it at 65/70, it'll get 24mpg! Anyway, what it started to do yesterday was, just cruising it will go in and out of overdrive for no reason! When you let up on the throttle, it will go back into o/d and no problems. Then all of a sudden, there it goes again! Other than that the trans has no other problems. This just started happening. When fueling, I talked to another Dodge man, and he said to check the TPS. He said the earlier Dodges were notorious for that!

Thanks for your time

Because it seems to be related to the throttle, 95% that it's the TPS, but the VSS on the side of the transmission (transfer case on a 4wd) can cause this too. I've found that hosing off the TPS connections with some quick drying electronic cleaner sometimes helps. You can try that with the VSS, but those things just go to hell after a while down in the salt and muck.

Hey guys, Thanks for the replies! I haven't driven the truck since this issue happened, only because I use my 01 for all my trailering needs. I did pick up a nice brown repair manual for the 92 and will see what I can do. Didn't know you can adjust the tps. I already sprayed the electrical dry cleaner in the plug. Maybe I'll take it for a drive and see if it did anything before I dig deeper into this thing. If I do need the sensor, does anyone know the best place to get one? I already called Cummins, and a local heavy duty parts supply, and they both said it's a dealer item. Called a dealer, and they said they would have to order one. Sorry to be so ignorant on this issue, all my other Dodges, ( 96, 98, and 01), have been sticks!
