I'm thinking of carrying my spare in the bed. I have a camper shell, so security isn't an issue (at least I hope it isn't... ). But I'd like to secure it to the side rail, with some sort of clamp and bolt arrangement. I had the thought of trying to rig some sort of bolt-hook and nut-washer arrangement. Perhaps to some sort of c-clamp, like those that clamp my camper shell to the bedrail?

Has anyone done this? Can you offer suggestions? What sort of hardware do I need to search for? Does anyone know of a product on the market for this?

Thanks,

John

LOL,

Thanks, r-n-r.

I had already tried Google, but can't for the life of me get a search that narrows hits down to "hardware" that fits what I'm thinking of. I figure there's got to be some "simple components" that'll let me assemble a simple threaded hook to the side rail. Yet, I don't know what I'm searching for yet.

I need to exclude the bike racks, too... .

Thanks again,

John

That's sharp! If I didn't need the truck box & full headache rack, I'd love to do something like that. These OE spare holds arn't the greatest...

Thanks MBreyer. It looks better now that my bed is Line-Xed. My 315 spare wouldn't fit under there with my 4" exhaust. So I yanked out the pully from under the bed. I didn't want to use that angled spare carrier, I would loose too much of my bed.

Thanks, BDR.

That's similar to the sort of things I have in mind. Somehow, it's more satisfying to plan and build your own 'system' instead of "buying off the rack".

John

I didn't build that. I guess I could have, not much to it.

my truck cap has a lip that comes down into the bed around the 3 sides... i made a bracket that clamps to it... i didn't make any measurements of when i made it, but i was asked once here how it was mounted and i doodled up a rough plan of it...

it looks sorta like this...

Nick,

That's what I wanted. I think I'll try to make one of your brackets.

Thanks,

John
