The pre-owned truck I'm buying ('05 Laramie) originally came with an in dash CD changer deck that had steering wheel controls. Notice I said had... the previous owner removed it and replaced with an aftermarket brand. I have found some similar stock units on Ebay but they are listed for '06 only.

Does anyone know if there is a difference, and if the '06 fits '05?

Were the OEM decks junk and that's why it is replaced (often the case)?

Can I replace the steering wheel with a non-stereo controlling one

In addition I have the window sticker for the truck but it makes no mention of the gear ratio. It is an LSD diff and I'm wondering if they only list the gear ratio when you option the lower gears? Anyone know?

Open up your glove box and there should be a pice of paper stuck inside saying some of the options and the axle ratio.

05's and 06's are different. It won't be a problem to put another factory headunit in it. There's nothing really wrong with the factory stereo. Hooking up additional amps for speakers/subs is more trouble with it but still doable. Some stereo shops tell you that they can't but they are just looking to sell a new radio. I'm too addicted to steering wheel controls to replace my headunit.

You are right, the window sticker would show $100 for the 4. 11 gear. You have the gear ratio of 3. 73.

FWIW my 03 and 05 have the 6 disc changer and they have worked great.

You can get a 6 disc changer on Ebay for $100 to $200 all day long and it taked about 3 min to install. Much better price than the $700 that the dealer wants.

I just bought one for my 05 Chrysler Sebring convertible and it is the very same radio. Go for it! :D
