Anybody ever replace their stock Stereo with one of those DVD, CD players with the monitor that pops out and retracts back in??? THought it might be a fun idea... Oo.

The parking brake is a 12 volt trigger. The Alpine unit that I had went like this- Step on the foot brake to send the 12 volt trigger to the brain box then apply the e-brake which grounded it out. I installed a small toggle switch and a momentary push button switch (like the ones in alarm system kits) The push button sent the 12 volts and the toggle grounded everything out. I still had it wired thru my foot brake and e brake so if I got pulled over I could trip the toggle and if the cop gave me a hard time I could show them that the only way I could be watching a movie was to push the foot brake and then set the ebrake. WHat model head unit do you have and I will ask my buddy that owns a stereo shop what the procedure would be. I would personally not install a unit that has a monitor that comes out of the dash and folds up and then back inside for the simple reason that if someone bumps or grabs (like kids) the monitor it will strip the gears in it. I am going to install either the Eclipse AVN5495 or the Clarion MAX675. I am leaning towards the clarion unit because it is a 7 inch monitor and it has a seperate NAV/30GB Hard drive but the Eclipse unit has a 30GB hard drive built in but is 6. 5 inch monitor. Let me know if I can help. ALso if you are in Boise, go to Car Phonics and ask for TOM. He owns the place and tell him that Chris from McCall sent you. I have been doing business with Tom for over 17 years now. Very good guy to deal with but hard to get ahold of since he owns the place and has employees doin his dirty work LOL!! Tell him hi for me if you get out there.

I have the JVC AV-X2. It is a direct replacement in size. It has a 3. 5" LCD screen for DVD. It's got an amazing amount of features; still can't figure out most of them.

As far as the parking brake issue, just ground the parking brake wire to any ground. It just needs a ground to activate the screen; that's it. It will play 24/7 when grounded.

Thanks for the replies! I think I will ditch that Idea and just get a portable DVD player. LOLOL I had no idea about the parking brrake wiring etc. . I thought someone could be watching it in the passenger seat while going down the road!!!

roperteacher, I have had several of the in dash dvds. They are the only way to go if you ask me. I've had several different brands and models. Ino my opinion, Kenwood is by far the best. They also have a 7" screen where most have a 6. 5" screen. All you have to do is hook the parking brake wire to a ground wire and everything works when moving. They are pretty simple to install. The hardest part is hiding the brain and wiring. If you don't have infinity sound, the brain will fit behind the glovebox in the dash. If you do have it, you can put it in the center seat storage. I recommend the Kenwood xxv-05v or the KVT-915 if you want one with the most features and maximum versability. If you want one a little cheaper and easier to use, you can go with the KVT-817, KVT-717, KVT-815 or KVT-715. The 817/717 are the newer models and the 815/715 are last years models. You can find a good deal on ebay every now and then. If you get one and need help installing, I will help you all I can. I actually have a Kenwood xxv-05v for sale on ebay. Not trying to get you to buy mine, you will actaully like one of the lower models better.

The only thing the parking brake provides is either a ground or a 12v, which is activated when it is depressedand released. I would look real hard at the head unit. Sounds strange.

I purchased a Pioneer NAVIC3 ealier this year. Circuit City had no interest until 2008. It is a nice system - DVD, any type of CD, Navigation, also set up for sat. radio. 7" screen that pops out.

I am not sure on the Jensen. My alpine unit required an initial 12 volt source then apply the e-brake to provide the ground. If I remember right the JVC unit that I had required grounding the green wire. Not completely sure though. Would have to check.
