This is the first thread that I have started myself. Hopefully I have done it correctly ;) . I felt that I wanted to share. I replied to a post back in October about installing SAM in my 2005 Dodge Ram and finally got it together to post some pictures in my readers rigs photos:-laf . I took about 8 pictures with descriptions of the install in case someone wants to view them. I had previously installed a fm modulator type of xm in my last Dodge and didn't want any more wires or little rectangular boxes that looked like they didn't belong there. After arguing with Circuit City(radio installation manager insisted that there was none available and that I should buy an aftermarket one from them) about the availability of an in-dash kit for the Chrysler radio I decided to find one on my own on the internet. Delivery took about 3 days and installation wasn't too difficult. Probably about 90 minutes max. No soldering, cutting wires only a screw driver(actually used a power one), some duct tape and my hands were all that was needed.

Any of you that want XM that uses the steering wheel controls to change channels, genre, volume and wants to use 12 presets should look at this. The display shows channel name or artist name or song title. These scroll once and then show the first 8? letters of whatever setting you have it set on.

I hope this post helps someone. I imagine that a factory Sirius installation would look about the same as my xm install and the bottom line is do it yourself saves some money.

It was rather difficult to find this kit so I am attaching a link to the place where I found mine. I am in no way affiliated with this company and only include it because of the hours that it took me to find it. http://www.radiosandmore.com/prod_detail.asp?pn=RVR-D-001-CHY100

Thanks for the writeup & pics. Did the product in the link above include everything in your gallery pic of 11:00 AM (The red labeled box and all cables along with the XM box)?

If the red labeled box was seperate, who was your source?

Again thanks.

The web site states "Does not work with vehicles that have changers" is this wrong since your thread title is "In dash XM-with Factory RBQ Infinity 6cd radio"?

been looking for something to use with my 2003 in dash 6 cd changer

thanks ron

I'm guessing the changer that they are referring to would be the external changer because it would tie up the aux inputs. Is this XM tuner controlled by the RBQ (or whatever) stock radio? I would be surprised if they could do that because I assume it was never intended to be XM compatable.

The unit plugs into the outlet on the back of the radio next to the wide plug that all the other wires that operate the radio system. See the picture in my readers rigs that is in the second row second photo-the wire with a 401 tag on it plugs into what is probably the plug interface for an external changer. The built in 6 cd changer works fine and has no external wireing hardware.

An interesting observation (when the radio is off and set to come on in the satellite mode) is that on powering up is says Sirius for about a second, then it says xm as the unit provides its powerup information, and then the channel such as Nashville is displayed

Question about factory Sirius System

:) I have the factory installed Sirius System, antenna is installed in rear of roof, AKA hole in roof! will this one work with XM? I would like to switch to XM and use this antenna. I would sell this system too. Any help out there?

Just looked again at the post about reusing the Sirirus antenna on an xm unit. The only thing I know is that the wire for the antenna cannot be cut and the plug on my xm was pink and square shaped with a rod shaped metal in the center. I suggest that you surf for some antenna info to see if people like Terk who make the sat antennas make one for both xm and sirius that may possibly have the same part number.

Hoagie,

Thanks for the informative post and photos. Based on nothing more than the information you posted here I ordered an XM receiver unit from the supplier you recommended.

I tried to find an answer to another question on their website but had no luck. Do you know if they offer similar XM kits for Hondas? All I could find was a universal kit. I'd like to buy another one for my wife's car and get rid of the Roady II. I know that the late model Honda is XM ready from the factory.

I have Sirius in my truck now and it came with a year's subscription when I bought it. I want to change to XM in the near future but does that mean that I willl have to change the whole radio?

Thanks,

I believe that the radio and the Sirius radio are separate components. Thus you would have to "replace" the satellite part as shown in my readers rigs.

I wish I had seen this before I paid $150 for an installed Roady II. They told me it was a "direct" connection, and I find out later that it operates off a "clear" FM channel. The problem is I'm constantly trying to find a "clear" FM channel as I drive down the road, then trying to switch the channel on the Roady to match. Half the time I'm listening to a blend of XM and mariachi music from an overpowered FM station in Mexico :-{} .

Live and learn. I'm getting ready to cancel my XM until I get a good unit.

Half moon button

I am not sure Sirius has any different controls. Using the factory radio I change the display by pressing the halfmoon shaped button located to the right of the hour min clock setting buttons. I press the bottom of the half moon several times until I get what I am looking for :-laf

"The display shows channel name or artist name or song title"

How do you change this? my sirius only displays station name.

The Dodge factory Sirius adapter iwill only display station name and major catagory.

Does anyone know if this XM kit will work with the lower radio options? I don't know the code off the top of my head, by my 2005 truck just has the in-dash AM/FM/CD player unit, not the Infinity system.

Thanks.

I put one of those on an 03 and it worked, there is some limitations depending on what deck you have.

Sirius has never come out with one to add that shows artist name and title like this XM direct does, its the one I want for my 05. I think they got the artist name and title corrected for the 06's but this is nice for 03-05's

Thanks for the post Hoagie
