Toureg

Just for some of you who were interested in the diesel Toureg, the cost off of the floor for a new one is somewhere in the 50k and higher dollar range. I just went and looked at one the other day. It was loaded though with the all wheel drive and stuff. Just thought some of you might want to know. That was also in Houston and they only had one on the floor. I called around and there were not that many in the city yet. maybe with a little more time they will come down some.

Ready for this, word has it that there will only be 2000 units available (sounds like a PT Cruiser story/plan/ploy) Thats the idea in my opinion , and I'm not a negative person either ! Great marketing strategy, limit supply and sell at whatever the market will bear (OVER STICKER). Sound like a platform to try the engine in. Very or overly domesticated ride that fits the yuppy/gen "X"/female gender quite well. The Rubicon or maybe the Dakota would be the next likely attemp. Tommeygun help us on this one please... ... .....

Touareg is awesome. Took one for a test drive about a month ago while my wife's new Passat TDI was being prepped. Our dealer told us that they were getting two, including my test model, until the fourth quarter of the year. Price was a non-negotiable 61K. They have been out for a while now. Saw two of them in my travels to date. Can't miss the V10 TDI logo on the right rear corner.

500 Toureg Production

What I read, some auto magazine, that there will only be 500 TDI Touregs for 2004. Apparently demand is so high in Europe that the can not manufacturer enough. There are also only going to be 11,000 Passats manufactured for 2004. Not much of chance to bargin on the Touregs. Plus I am not crazy about the Auto on this diesel; time will tell.

Why has this stayed in the 3rd Gen forum and not been moved to general diesel is beyond me, but back to the original topic.

The engine in the Liberty is an enlarged 2. 5L TD DI-4V DDC Detroit Diesel made in Italy.

It's already in the parts computers @ DC/Jeep dealers. If you pull up an exploded view of the gasket set, it shows Detroit Diesel.

Don't forget, however, that the engine is not 50 legal. The engine will not be available (according to the current documentation) in CA, NY, MA, ME and VT. That represents 22% of the total population of the USA and some of the areas with the greatest amount of snow.
