As with most of you, I am on my second fuel transfer pump. First one died @ 36K. After calling every Cummins dealer in a 50 mile radius... . Not a single dealer had the part. OK... . I order it. When I go to pick it up... . Not only am I paying over +$100 for a Cummins pump... but I had to pay the UPS shipping for a "special" order part. After a little grumbling... I pay it.

OK... we're over that problem.

Now My check engine light comes on for the second time. (paid to have the first time cleared) ... It would appear... since I have the same error code... . my 5. 9 has a flaky Crank position sensor... . or should I say one that is on the way out.

Same routine... call every dealer. . NOTHING. AGAIN. . order the part pay the shipping. bla bla bla.

Not only am I a bit upset that these parts failed at such a premature stage... but then I have to ORDER the part. . PAY for it... and PAY for special shipping..... On top of that... It annoyes the heck out of me to have these kind of problems with a good old American truck... knowing that the only thing my tin can import needs is gas,oil and tires. What a SHAME. . We should sit down and have a long drawn out meeting to figure out why American companies are losing market share to import stuff... . DUHH!!!

Anyway, since I have less than 100K on the motor, is this a warranty thing? Even with the Mods? What should I have done differently.

Ok, I feel a little better.

Crank Position sensor probably under warranty, but I'm sure dealer will frown upon lift transfer pump failure since you have the pump wire hooked up. Just wait till your injection pump goes south like so many do on the 98. 5's and 99's, just replaced mine Sat. , also running PE COMP on my '99---warranty void with pump wire hooked up. Better get a Pusher Pump at the tank or your lift/transfer pump will fail again, not designed to suck fuel over 3 foot.
