All right fellas, time to tell me the secrets of the 1st Gen. Bought "Beater" and spent the morning doing the initial once over. Was interested to see that service records were in the glove compartment, which included a transmission history. These 1st Gen's are a truck in the simplist form. It just drives like a 3/4 ton should (bounce, bounce-clank, clank ;) ). Yeah, it's got the regular stuff a 13 year old truck should have wrong with it, knob loose here trim not lined up there... and I won't mention the steering coupler ;) . But it's nice to have a truck and not be afraid how close I park next to somebody. I now understand why you 1st Gen guys are so loyal to your trucks.

Scott

PS: If anybody has tips on doing the steering coupler or how it is to be done, please PM me.

Welcome to the Dark Side

Yup, it IS nice to not have to worry about how close you get to another vehicle on the parking lot. OTHER people might worry a little... ..... :-laf. Plus, you can BOMB it to 400hp, and have $25K left over vs the cost of a 3G. It's paid for, gets me where I need to go, and will out-tow most V8s. If it wont out tow a V8, it will use 1/5 the fuel the hopped up V8 will.

Scott,

There used to be a "Sticky" for the steering coupler at the top of the 1st Gen page. I think it got merged into one of the other ones.

My old 90 got paint cancer and eventually my hood and roof turned to rust. Since I did a lot of work in "Cracktown" it served as sort of Urban Camoflauge. Never once had a problem while I was working. Didn't even have to roll the windows up.

Whenever I was in city traffic, I'd spot a MB or Beemer getting ready to pass me. I'd edge over to the divider line and watch them either change lanes, or run the edge of the road... . does that make me a bad person??

Anyway, welcome aboard!!! Are you on active duty?

Tug failed to mention setting off car alarms during the pre-dawn hours:D

The steering coupler is really ez once you git the jist of it and really helps in the handling dept.

And for the "wreckord" I still park my Ram in the farthest parking space from the store. :p

Scott

Thanks for the welcome guys. I think I'm making my 97 jealous of all the attention I'm giving the 91. Started pricing stuff today that needs fixed, oh well, it's keeping me out of trouble  .

tugboatphil, yeah, I'm active duty.

Ok you guys, you can park next to whom ever you wish, but keep those clunkers away from my truck.

Oh yea, welcome Kernel!!

Welcome!

Welcome to the club Kernal, I salute you, keep up the service to our country. Looks like your 2nd Gen is a good Hot Rod. Nice diff gears on the 91. Have fun with your new/old truck, we like them around here:D

Have a great Independence Day weekend, hope you have a decent detail.

Patrick.

God bless the folks in service. Keep them safe

There is nothing like having a real 3/4 ton truck under you even with the

shake rattle and roll.

Try the Borgeson steering shafts. They are well made and easy to install.

Do whatever is needed to keep that First Gen Roadworthy. There's nothing likem.

Once again thanks for the warm welcome. Thank all of you for support of us in the Military. I know you all mean just as much to us as we do to you when you say a simple "thank-you".

Does anybody know of a used Borgeson forsale?
