What about propane injection? It does make the combustion process more efficient and keeps the oil cleaner. Or so they say.

And if it's 4x4, what about changing the front hubs to free wheelers?

Course you can buy a lot of diesel for what these mods cost. Just a thought.

The hubs deffinatly help. Propane can give you the sence you are getting better but when you add in the cost of the propane its realy not worth it. a good air filter in the stock box and something like smarty JR are the best bang for the buck. the only other things and htey get expensive are a Cam or a Over drive

Propane was a popular item back in 2000. After the math was done it turned out fuel costs increased when you figured MPG with both fuels combined vs. straight diesel, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. . . that was back when diesel was $1. 40.

Thanks for that bit of information. Propane is something I've been considering but I just don't know how the metrics pan out, nor do I know anyone who's running it. Now that diesel is over 3 bucks a gallon, is it more viable? To calculate that we'd need to know roughly how much propane you'd use in a mile under average conditions, and I just don't have a clue.

Anyone?

Tires,

On the Dodge I run as much air in the front as safely possible. I run 80 psi in my 8-plys.

My daily driver 96 Regal dropped from 30. 5 avg. to 28. The cold weather caused the pressure to drop.

I also take my foot off the fuel pedal long before reaching a stop sign.

I started with my exhaust and intake first, as well, and didn't get that much on m. p. g. , but, when it came to adding power, it helped beat projections on both power and m. p. g. on the power booster of choice. It will also keep the e. g. t's down. One thing to look into (I saw it in another diesel mag. but can't remember which one) is a flex-a-lite fan for 03-07 dodges. When I put one on my 99 I got 1. 5 m. p. g. , but went down to 3/4 of a mile due to this ULSD fuel. Either way, it's worth looking in to.

Anyone looking to increase airflow with an intake and exhaust needs to replace thier intake elbow if they really want to do any good. When mine came off I, my mechanic, and the owner of the shop were amazed at the restriction from where the neck narrows down around the bolts. The opening there is about 1. 5 inches wide. A 4-inch exhaust and 4 inch torque tube are definately not the limiting factors.

I am sure this is a question heard often, and maybe thought too simple, but I am a new diesel owner. I have a 2006 Dodge RAM and am considering doing just a few modifications. I am more interested in efficiency than power, although a few extra horsepower would be nice. I have decided to start by replacing the airfilter and exhaust- no chips at this time.

'Just wanted opinions and general info as to what you think I might see as far as increase gas mileage and power and if you think this is a good place to start.

Thanks:D

follow senior citizens all the time for the easiest buck well spent on your fuel. they are easy on the gas at the lights and some dont speed. draft trucks when you can or your buddies (yes it does help the car in front of our too). and dont use the new 15ppm ulsd as it sucks. i am sure someone above posted a cat and muffler delete. it works great for mileage and is worth the penny but it is loud to some.

Cummins has stated that their mpg has suffered thanks to emissions reg's..... to that end they have retarded the timing to lower nox emissions. My new Powerpuck advances timing as well as remaps the fuel. I have seen my mpg increase already but won't release numbers until I burn 5 full tanks. It runs like a house on fire at the 90hp setting, I keep it at the other setting, 50hp... . for the best mpg benefits. It is mainly in the timing.

I will admit that the elbow behind the turbo is extremely restrictive. When I replaced mine on my 99, I noticed that the stock elbow completely blocked off airflow from the wastegate. Not only that, but, the elbow from Banks hollowed out from the stock 3-3. 5 diameter to 4", which made the 4" exhaust perform better. I always said how much good is a 4" exhaust when you still have to pass through a 3. 5" pipe at the turbo. Needless to say, I like what the elbow does for my truck, the turbo seems to spool up quicker.
