I read in an early tdr issue about the need to put on the bigger crank dampener when increasing hp and torque over stock 160 hp to keep the crank from flexing. Does anyone know if this is necessary to do when turning up power?
I would change it. Its cheap insurance. The 215 hp damper for a '94 12 valve is Cummins p/n 3924435. about 200 bananas. The compression ratio will go up with more boost, stronger "explosion" in the combustion chamber w/ more fuel, hence more stress and "hammering" on the crank & rods.
BTW:
I searched the county for a high performance Fluid/Viscous damper for the B-series engine about a month ago. Nobody makes one. Bruce Mallinson from Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh was nice enough to try to find a damper from the higher HP marine B series engines (300HP, 370 HP) that would interchange with the Dodge application. He said they're all too big. They would butt up against the radiator.
