Vaccum pump leak? No problem.

Did you guys try to clean up the gasket match w/ a grinder or just bolt them on?

My ATS manifold is port matched to an HX40. I am leaning towards grinding away.

Pic is an PS62/12

I just bolted mine on! If you do grind away at it don't do much in the middle as it get's too thin. I have a 40 housing that is cracked real bad from getting too thin... ... useless turbo now!

Re: Gasket Match

If you want to grind away the little over lap on the gasket be my guest. But remember too much will compromise the gasket sealing. A leaking gasket is not a good problem as it will get much worse as the turbo operates. If your thinking about grinding the volutes in the exhaust housing you will have to remove the housing and I hope you have done this before. I don't think it's going to be a performance issue if you do nothing as we have many of that turbo running with very happy customers. It is your turbo and you are the customer, but Please do not get any grinding dust or metal pieces in the turbo. If you want us to grind out the volutes for you we can. Thanks for your support and have fun! Brady

What size housing is that?

Ya might try a gasket match (with the housing removed of course) then if you have a smaller housing, send it off to get extrude honed to match things up through the entire scroll.

I guess I will grind some of the overlap away. The HX40 exhaust housings are the same way.

Diesel, it is a 12

Ron, I was quoted $300 clams to extrude hone a housing. That was 7 years ago. Not worth the money for probably no gain anywhere.

A guy over in Washington does porting. Real reasonable and he has quite a bit of experience. I usually send mine up to him. Goes by hdm48 on the tdr forums.

i would just open it up width wise on your pic. leave the same amount of space on the sides as is on the top. don't know how much your going to gain from this other than a little bit less back pressure. gastket matching a set of cylinder heads will give you another 5-7 horses if that on the intake ports. on the exhaust, i doubt it will do anything. the main reason for matching is to be more efficient. i've been porting cylinder heads for a few years now with a guy who has been for 25 years. we do mostly circle track racing applications but what ever you want done we can do. from diesel tractor heads, small block, big block whatever. cast iron or aluminum makes no difference. anyways back to the port matching, i have flow tested heads and stuck my finger in the port partly just to see what happens and it just disrupts the flow about 2-5 cfm.

hope this helps

Seems like the more important issue would be how well it matches the manifold.

If the manifold has larger holes, IMO I would open it up some. If the manifold has smaller holes than I wouldn't mess with it.

Matt,

I ported my ATS manifold outlet to turbo. This is why I figured I might as well do the exhaust housing on the PS62.

Hey Brett,

I removed the blue hose from the barbed fitting on the compressor. I put 40 PSI of shop air to the wastegate through the blue hose. It barely moved. Tried 50 psi. It moved slightly more.

I lengthend the actuator rod a solid inch and now it opens at about 40 psi. but not all the way.

What happened?

That is exactly were the actuator is suppose to move. Barely moves at 40psi and opens about 1/4 to 1/2 of the total travel at 50psi. If you want to run at 40 psi max pressure then let us know we will send you a spacer plate that will increase the total travel of the accuator. It will help you get the boost down to 40psi. But if you want 50psi I would not adjust any thing. I will not be in the shop for a few days but you can reach me on my cell phone 1-801-557-8669. Thanks, Brady
