It comes with an ATS 3 piece that you run upside down.

Surprizes: Well lets start, exhaust 5" told it would bolt to the stock exhaust

asked if anything had to be modified under the hood-nope just

bolt and play. Well battery box gets cut up (but they do that for

you with a new one in kit)

You have to move wiring for heating grids

Change pretty much all the coolant plumbing

Pull the frost plug out of the oil galiy

Plus right now I'm not sure how they are hooking the low

pressure turbo to the pipe. One has a flange and the other

uses a rubber boot

So needless to say there has been quite a few surprizes, which I can handle. But I would rather be told up front what is all involved with the project. So I can prepare everything to do it, not wait on an 5" exhaust to be ordered monday. If I would of known that I needed an exhaust I would of order it so I had it to do the job.

i am near buying a new set of twins and was wondering DOES ANYONE OUT THERE MAKE TWIN'S THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO MOD EVERYTHING AROUND THEM? how about AA twins, looks like their's are direct bolt in. and they come with exhaust elbow too. any comment's or suggestions before i bite the bullet and buy some?

I take it you found some instructions, then? When you changed your coolant tubing were you still able to use the hard piping and just relocate it, or did you have to switch to hose? Without instructions, I think I'd be mystified briefly about the second turbo oil drain. I was actually glad to hear the exhaust was 5 inch. Gives me a good excuse to put on a single stack. :D

you are right it is a silver bullet on top. but both are very good sets of twins.

let us know what you think.

This is my next upgrade as I get the visa paid down a bit.

silver bullet / big brother combo.

Hey Brady !! Start getting this ready for me !!

II isn't recreating anything with their turbos--twins have been proven for years and almost all combos of turbos have been put to use--some name their turbos to give it a little more proprietory feel, but they are still the same turbos that have been used for years---but I do like the fact that they've wastegated the big turbo and I'm not sure how many kits do this now--early on no one did this, so this is very nice--

here's a list of issues that may arise and there may be some I've forgotten, so please add to it if you want:

if you have an automatic you will have heater hose issues at least on the

2nd gen 24v

transmission line issues when you remove the transmission fluid/coolant cooler on the passenger side of the engine

most 12v engines need a hole punched in the oil pan and a fitting welded to the pan for the oil drain back of the big turbo---the 24V and late 12v(if memory serves me right) you punch out one of the lower freeze plugs and insert an available part from cummins into the hole

you need to extend the oil drain back tube for the top turbo

you will need oil supply to the the big turbo and relocated top turbo

some systems require the passenger side battery relocation or removal-- I did one of the first system that let the battery stay in by buying RED tops and I rotated the passenger side battery so one could still have two batteries

you need to adapt your exhaust for the 5" outlet or install new 5" exhaust--be sure to make sure you have clearance between the transmission and frame for the down pipe as it can be a tight fit there

most kits now brace up the big turbo with a bracket

upgraded boots for the innercooler are smart also--some have had toruble keeping these boots on--hairspray prior to installation works sometimes and sometimes a mechanical strap may be needed--- PDR sells these upgraded boots

you need to flip your exhaust manifold also as noted---you usually get 4 allen head bolts that you have to use for the center 4 bolts on the exhaust and you reuse your old bolts for the remaining, although you may get all new allen head bolts

your existing air filter box needs to be removed and discarded--

again there may be a couple of things I missed, but this is a lot of what must be done---

good luck... ... chris

A fellow TDR member suggested that I try Armor All - said it works better than hairspray!

Anyhow, can you describe or have a picture of the metal straps?

-Thanks-

I haven't heard the armor all theory---but maybe

I had a problem with the driver side boot staying on so I took a clamp and put a clamp around the outlet on the innercooler and also on my innercooler pipe from the turbo I had two blowoffs with bungs welded on so I was able to put another clamp behind them --I then used a heavy duty construction strap that I bent on each end so they couldn't pull out--crude but it worked--you at least need to weld something onto the innercooler pipe to hold the strap or clamp ----does this make sense---chris

does this make sense

makes sense!

I would think Armor All would be a little slippery

Yeah, I thought so at first, but after 2 days it's holding 55 psi no problem. It actually dries pretty tacky like hairspray, but takes a bit longer so you have more time to work with the boots and clamps to get them set-up correctly.

Regular ole' rubbing alcohol workes the best! Take a dollar bottle and drill a tiny hole in the cap and shoot it into the boots or on the pipes! It makes it slick then dries tacky... ... especially on painted surfaces, been doing it for years likes this without an issue.

We have single and Dual 5" exhaust kits in stock that would be a perfect addition to your upgrade. I will talk to the person you purchased the kit from. This should have been part of the conversation. A reducer would work but the right way would be to upgrade the exhaust. Sorry for any confusion. Brady

Well just a little up date on the progress of the twins, well after going thru the kit and noticed that the pipe the feeds the small turbo would not hook to the K31 I called II. After talking with Brett and Brady we found out that some how I got the piping kit for the racing twins instead of the towing twins. Plus I was missing a couple of other parts that weren't in the kit. So Brett said that he was going to send me a complete kit out and once I got that he would have a call tag to send the racing kit back. So I was happy with how willing these guys were to get the situation taken care of. Thanks Brett and Brady!

So will any luck and time, maybe I can get to them this weekend, plus now I will have a 5" exhaust to go with it.

Thanks,

Dustin

When do you plan on dynoing this beast?

Well snox let me know if you can't quite figure out how that set-up goes on your truck. I would be more that happy to show you how it would fit on mine!!

Twins that fit and come with instructions,...no surprises.

i am near buying a new set of twins and was wondering DOES ANYONE OUT THERE MAKE TWIN'S THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO MOD EVERYTHING AROUND THEM? how about AA twins, looks like their's are direct bolt in. and they come with exhaust elbow too. any comment's or suggestions before i bite the bullet and buy some?

I know ATS fit and come with instructions. They were a perfect fit on everything. I have heard that BD does also,... I don't have them so I can't say for sure but my friend runs them.

Just going to actually start on them Sunday or Monday, I have been driving the truck with the stock turbo just to make sure everything is ok so far. But now that I sold my stock turbo today and don't have it on my truck I have to put the kit on now. After going thru all the parts it is not so overwhelming and it is looking pretty straight foward. So with a little time hopefully by Monday it will bealive with twins!!!

Just on a side note, today when I pulled the stock turbo and exhaust manifold off, I noticed that one of the cylinder ports (#3) had just a little wetness on the top side of the port. It did idle a little before I pulled it in to the shop, so I wasn't sure if it was just a little unburnt fuel from idle or something else? Any ideas?

Thanks and I will keep you all updated!!!
