What ever came out of the folks who were testing the Infinitely-Variable Transmissions (or whatever they called it!)? I remember they came on at the end of a transmission thread and said they had it in testing. Seems like it was some time in December? I did a search and couldn't find it.

Hopefully they are busy sharing technology with the guys building the Infinitely-Variable Torque/Horsepower engine. :)

gm has a constant variable transmission, for which they just stopped production because of quality issues.

they put it in some saturn cars, and call it a cvt i believe

I think there are issues at higher horsepower. Since it's basically a belt or chain connecting two sprockets whose diameter can change, well--I guess it's hard to make a disc that can change size and still hold up under a heavy load. It would be kinda weird to floor it, and accelerate while the engine stays at the same RPM and the transmission was running the ratio down.

The one I'm asking about had no belt or chain. The guy said it was done with gears. Man I wish I could find that thread!

So HOW can you have a gear drive with no slip device and infinite gear ratios? Sounds too good to be true! I can't wait until they go into production on that thing... definitely want to see how it holds up.

Thanks Edward!

I knew it was out there somewhere! Now all we need is a word of how their testing is going.
