My drivers door 6x9 went out. I found some 6x9 take-out infinities for a 2002 but when I put that part number in on the Dodge parts online to check it says $60. or so for new one. Dodge parts on line says that the one I need for the 2001 is a different number and the cost is $157. The take out speakers say Chrysler infinity right on the back. Now what can be different between 2001 and 2002? Confused.

Are you sure that the 2002 are the amplified speakers. I am assuming that your 01 has the 6 speaker Infinity system. The reason they are so expensive is they have a built in amplifier. Personally I would go get a set of aftermarket speakers and call it good. :)

I do have the 6 speaker infinity system. Apparantely infinity doesn't refer to how long they last. Anyway the take-offs from the 02 say Chrysler Infinity right on the back. THink I'll just buy them and find out, they're pretty cheap.

How would one go about replacing the existing Infinity 6x9's with aftermarket ones?

You can begin by going to crutchfield.com. I would make it a link for you but don't know how..... anyway, great people to work with and a good service dept. They tend to be alittle more than some sites but a super place to learn what you need and is available. I wouldn't buy much of anything OEM in that dept.

Tomscreek.

I am looking for an Infinity speaker, the big one in the door with the amplifier built in.

If you have an extra or know where to find one let me know please.

Tom:

Might want to take off the door liner and check your wiring first. I`ve seen quite a few of the hookups for the infinity system loose or corroded. Quick and easy fix there, as long as you take your time with the door panel popout "trees" that suck so bad... heh (hint thin flat chisel)

As for upgrading your radio, I would -highly- recommend it. First thing I did when I drove my truck home is sized everything up and ordered all new. The stock system sux compared to a good aftermarket, not to mention all the extra features. Like mentioned before, check out Crutchfield for some good info, but the -real- deals are on ebay. Same equipment, new, for 25% to 40% less. Just use a bit of common sense on ebay and yer alright. . like dont buy offa less than 50 feedback seller.

good luck

DDeputy, for a link go to the page you are talking about, go up to the address bar and highlight the URL (the www.xxx). Go to "edit" on the top tool bar and click on copy. Go back to your original board message and select reply to display board, like you are looking at right now, and when you have the blinking cursor where you want it go up to "edit" again and select copy. It will paste in the URL for you.

no difference, but I would still go to an aftermarket speaker for better quality and clarity. try the rockford fosgate Power series 6X9

So many members are confused about the speakers in the door. That extra component is NOT. repeat NOT an amplifier!!! It is a crossover which seperates the signal from the amplifier (which is in the head unit) , and directs the low and mid range frequencies to the main speaker and the high frequencies to the tweeter in the pillar. If you are interested in purchasing a better system start by removing all speakers and head unit. In order to achieve truely great sound you must have an external amplifier. I have installed an Alpine head unit model 7995, Alpine amplifier model V12 450 (5 channel), Infinity Kappa speakers, and a 10" Cadance Mallet subwoofer. Got all this in a standard cab and it is invisible unless you know where to look. This system will shame most home systems-plenty of clean, undistorted volume with crisp highs, full mids, and just enough bass (no "blow the windows out" booming). Yes I have close to $1500 in this but I intend to keep this vehicle a long time and I do love music.

First things first, welcom to the TDR!!

Now that that's out of the way...

Sorry guy, but you are the one that is confused, if your truck has the Infinity system in it then the speakers do have amplifiers on them. Go get a FSM and look up the wiring diagrams if you don't believe me, it's listed there clear as day. The amplifiers *do* have some equalization built into them, but are not simply crossovers as such.

HELLO. .

I have a 98 Dodge Ram with the Infinity system,,of course the front speakers are blown.

I bought a set of INFINITY speakers but they were 4 Pin connectors an mine are 6 Pin.

Any one got any ideas on how to convert?

I had some OLD speaker an tried to jump the contacts to see if I could get to work,,but three differant wires gave me SOUND!!... Just wondering if one pin or color wire is best for hooking up to after market speakers??

THANKS

Mike
