I have an '05 Laramie with the Infinity system & 6 Disc changer, the sound is horrible. My '01 ferd tauras se company cars stereo sounds better.

The infinity system sounds muffled and a lot of bad sounding base even though I have the base turned way down. Even when I turn it upto MAX volume, it doesn't seem very loud. Is anyone else having these problem(s)?

I read in a post a while back about some of the trucks having the wires backwards? either at the deck or speakers causing reverse polarity... . could this be the problem or is it just a $hitty sounding deck that costs a lot of $$?

My '98 Ram SLT's single disc payer sounded way better.

Same here on sounding good for a factory system. Yours sounds like it could have a problem. Running bass at center slot on mine, if I crank the volume up very much my outside mirrors vibrate bad, even noticed windshield rear view vibrating some. I know it's nothing like some aftermarket stereos, but mine sounds good to me.

Mine didn't sound very good either. I had heard that there was a TSB for this and mentioned it to the dealer. (Elk Grove Dodge in CA) The sevice writer found that there was indeed newer front door speakers available to replace defectice ones. After replacement the system sounded much better.

I would agree though I could have done better sound after market with 900 bucks.

Sorry I dont have a tsb #. If someone else doesn't come up with one I will dig through my records for info regarding this service.

Hope this helps.

Greg

I'm pretty pleased with mine. I leave the bass turned almost all the way up, and I can turn it to high volume on almost any type of music with very little distortion. I bet you have some type of problem... This system is much better than my 02's.

Yup. I despise the stereo in this rig. The sound from my 98 was much better.

Muddy bass, totally inadequate volume. Simply awful for a so called "premium" system.

About the only good things are the steering wheel controls. Love 'em.

I, too, would be interested to see if there is a TSB on this. Not that the dealer would be any help... .

Maybe in the spring I will try to upgrade a little.

what's the max volume level on these? i've never gone past 20 on mine. while it isn't the best sound, it's pretty good for a factory car stereo. a little more bass would be nice, but i can always add a small sealed unit under the center seat [in the storage bin i never use]. i don't have it on all the time though, i mostly listen to the engine & turbo :D:D

Mine is a little muddy. I think new systems take some getting used to though. All factory systems sound a little different. The Infinity system is not as good as the Bose system was in my Chevy, or as good as the 350 watt Bose in my Cayenne. I also have a custom system in another truck with Infinity Kappa speakers and a big Infinity amp. My guess is this is a premium system in name only. You really don't get the power you need or the really good speakers. How come the SRT-10 trucks get 508 watts, and the Power Wagon 240 watts, I think ours is like 60 :{

Overall though, it is loud enough, and works well enough for me though. I would take it in if it seems something is wrong, maybe there is?

Exact same problem. The Shop manager and a Technician both listened to it and agreed that the sound was poor. I also have to keep the base slider all the way down and the treble all the way up, BTW.

They removed the radio and the wiring harness does not match their shop manual. The shop also called STAR, who indicated that my wiring harness did not resemble what they had as spec.

So, my shop manager ordered the harness that is correct (according to his manual. ) A $500 part no less. We will try it when it comes in and I will post the result.

I like the Infinity system as well and think it sounds great. I had a small problem with a vibration that was coming from the drivers door. There was a small gap between the door panel and the door frame that sounded like speaker distortion when the volume was turned up. After putting some padded tape on the panel to keep it from contacting the door (near the left of the speaker) I've had no problems. Sounds much better than any other stock system I've ever heard.

38. :D

I have a late '03 with the 6-disc changer, and man that thing is awesome!!! 7 speakers in my regular cab truck couldn't sound any better. Well worth the extra money I spent on it.

Yup, that's the way they are supposed to sound. :p

Unfortunately not so for tschwab and me, and enough others to generate a TSB. I didn't expect miracles from a stock radio but the sound is comparable to a transistor AM radio with one speaker.

tschwab, take the truck to your dealer and have him listen to it. It probably has the incorrect factory wiring harness like mine. This is a warranty item. Your stereo should sound like a stereo.

Thanks OHale, I will do that. Keep us posted on the progress of yours. Did you mention the TSB to them or did you just bring it and have them listen to the poor sound quality?

The sound had been bugging me since I got the truck. The much more basic radio in my '95 SLT sounds much better.

While I was in getting a remote starter installed (MOPAR) I told them about the radio. The Mgr. and a Technician listened to it. The Mgr. told me that the Tech said that he heard the exact same song come over the radio that he had heard in his hemi Ram with the same radio and that the sound quality of mine was terrible. That is when the Mgr. dug into the shop manuals.

He said they checked for the switched polarities referenced in the TSB. At those connections there were no wires! He said my radio had a main wiring harness that did not use the connectors it should have. STAR suggested he try swapping a radio but the Mgr decided to go ahead and order the correct harness.

So, I would recommend your dealer start with the reversed polarity speaker wire TSB. You might want to bring a copy of this post and tell him about my radio. If you want the phone number for my dealership PM and I will send it to you. Good luck. I will keep you posted on what happens when the part comes in.

I do about the same, and I live with it. My woman thinks it's a great stereo... I give it about a 6, but the steering wheel controls make up for a lot. It's actually better than I expected from OEM. The drag is, it's gone out & been replaced once, and I reckon it won't be the last time either.

If anyone finds a good system that integrates with the steering wheel controls, I'd be very interested.

I have the same problem. Have to run the treble way up, and with most cd's I have to run the bass all the way down. For an Infinity system, it is really not impressive at all.

Thanks for the insight guys! :D
