I know this is a subject talked a lot about on here. and there are lots of threads and pics on it. But I've always changed FF on a 98.5 24v. They a very different. So it would help if there were pics or video on it. at least from start to filter out. showing any tips or short cuts to make it easier to do myself. Will it make it easier if I take cover off on the top or any other things. I've heard that the cover on top of the canister is very tight from factory. Will draining fuel out of the canister relieve some pressure on it making the cover easier to remove. Need input. :)

Yes I've seen most of them they walk you through it. But in most of them they've done the things that i'm asking about they just don't show what i'm looking for.

Thank You Ram4Sam

Draining fuel out has nothing to do with how tight the cap is. I use a 1/2" ratchet with extension and swivel with socket to loosen the cap. This will get your tool well above the filter and give you some room to work.

Once you've got it loose, just pull straight up until it pops free of the housing. You'll have to angle it for final removal from the engine compartment.

That was the way we did it very tight was afraid we would crack the cover. I will try to get higher and more over the motor. My 98.5 was not easy to reach this one even worse. Thank You DonFitzwater.

Mine was so tight I couldn't budge it with a regular 1/2" ratchet and socket. I finally got it off from above with an extension with a U joint. I also thought the plastic would break but it didn't. I lubed the cover good when I put it back. Hopefully it will come off easier next time. The advantage of getting it from above is you can use a torque wrench to tighten it to the correct torque.

Thanks Dieselnerd
That's just what it was like. I have both a long torque wrench, and a breaker bar one of those will work. Thanks to all for the info it was very helpful.
Now just to put a longer drain tube on.
