Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Inj pump code p1688 .runs ruffle idle once in while ?????

GOT 1999 DODGE RAM 5.7 CUMMINS 87K
BEEN GETTING ROUGH IDLE ,ONCE IN WHILE. RESTART MOTOR OK
GOOD FUEL PRESSSURE 15PSI AT FUEL FILTER.
RUNS GOOD OTHER THEN RUFFLE IDLE ,.ONCE AND WHILE.
RUNNING BACK AND FORTH TO CAMPGROUND, NO DIEING ISSUES.
CHECK APPS SEEMS TO BE WORKING GOOD.
DISCONNECTED EDGE BOX. GETTING FAULT WHEN STARTING MOTOR.
ANY IDEA,S WERE TO LOOK. THANKS: confused:

P1688 (M) Internal Fuel Injection Pump

Controller Failure

Internal problem within the fuel injection pump. Low

power, engine derated, or engine stops.


Clean all the grounds and re-seat/clean the connector at VP-44 and ECM. Then when it dies install a new VP-44! SNOKING

there's no check engine light on just code when you check it. it goes right on soon as you start the truck. runs fine just the funny idle twice in 400miles, no other problems. thanks
