Well I have been down since Wed. need a new injector pump & non in western Canada as it is a restricted part & not stocked in local warehouse (so I'm told) National holiday here on Thurs so will not have new pump til Monday at earliest. 6 days of no income makes me have very unkind thoughts towards DC. Still love my truck but cannot understand why DC can't do something about their really $hitty fuel pump's situation. Replaced lift pump at 87,000km & now this at 92,000km

So much for the illusion the the latest fuel systems are failure proof - and underscores the adviseability of addressing fuel lubricity and overall quality - the new stuff is NOT immune to those issues, regardless of how much their owners might congratulate themselves on leaving the 2nd generation stuff behind! ;)

You can get overnight shipping when it's a business vehicle that's down; can't do much about the holiday though. Too bad it wasn't diagnosed sooner so you could have had it today!

Is it really the injection pump or the fuel pump?

Similar experience

My injector pump started leaking fuel with only 6k on the odometer of my 04. 5 Ram. Of course this had to happen while on vacation. Made it to a dealer in Kalispell Montana on a Saturday afternoon. They told me it was only about a 4 hr. repair and could have fixed it that afternoon . . . only one problem, it was a "star part". Apparently Chrysler is aware they have a problem with the pump and have flagged this part for special handling. They won't let the dealer stock the part because the replacement has to be "inspected". The parts dept. said they have argued this with corporate before that they should allow them to stock one inspected part to avoid unnecessary delays for the customer. Said they got no where with Chrysler on this issue. So instead of a 4hr. repair I lost 4 days of my vacation waiting on the part! Needless to say I'm none too pleased with Chrysler corporate. I am also finding out that they are doing a VERY VERY poor job of disseminating info to their dealers about this new engine. When I got back from my 8500 mile vacation I went in for my first oil change and was told I was way overdue. My dealership was not aware of the new oil change intervals (7500 - 15000k) for the 600. I had to show them in the owners manual before they would believe me. I've also run into other examples of this. I love my Dodge truck. 8500 miles in 3 weeks in total comfort. Good ride, great handling, tons of power (pushed it up to 110mph and still pulling hard when the limiter shut it down - no vibration, smooth as silk) so I'm very happy with the truck, but Chrysler corporate su*ks! :-{}

If you read the latest TDR issue, you might have noticed the "pride" of one of the head honchos in DC over reducing warranty expenses by something like 50% in the last year or so - NOW you know HOW they are accomplishing that - by hanging customers out to dry with warranty claims!

Actually, my main thrust continues to be focusing attention on the steady need for providing increased fuel lubricity, and to point out that ALL fuel delivery systems are susceptible to failure and premature wear from inadequate fuel...

THAT, and a bit of jealousy... ;) :D

I too have dealt with the wrath of dealer uneducatedness with regards to my rear differential. I took mine in for service and I ( THank goodness I did this) told the guy " Remember, no friction modifier". . he looked as if he saw a ghost. He said he had never heard of it, that ALL Ls differentials take the additive and DC had not said anything about not using it on any axle. I too had to whip out the ol owners manual where it says that very thing in BOLD BLACK PRINT... ... . I had to educate HIM about the AAM axle requirements...

Roper,What ever happend with your rearend? did you ever get it done right?Mine goes in on tuesday for a rebuild!Don't think there is any more fluid left!the metal on the magnet on the mag high tech is bigger than the hole!16000 miles since they said There is no problem that whine is normal!!6000 miles since they were going to order parts and call me when they were in. Ya right guess they forgot.

First I've heard of that "lubricity-enhancing agent" wonder what that amounts to, and if the filters for the '02's use that same or a similar type?

First formal acknowledgement *I* have seen that Cummins or DC even admitted there was a fuel lubricity problem...

Gary, I'm not sure it is an admission. I think it's out there for those situations around the world where they are using things like jet fuel and such.

Edit: QSB is industrial application name of ISB if anyone was wondering

Is there a special part# for that filter, is there one for an '02?

I'd be interested in one if it's available for my truck, but not sure what the above quoted numbers signify...

Guys, I feel for you having to sit at a dealer while waiting for DC to inspect your failed part. It is hard for me to blame DC for this. It is the hot rod guys that break parts and gets warranty to cover it that make you sit at the dealer and wait. Dodge knows they build these trucks to last, and when somthing fails, their first thought is what kind of mod broke it. I have a friend that is a service writer for a Dodge dealer. He has told me some of the stuff that Dodge has warranted when it should have been voided. They are sick of buying parts that they should not have too.

I believe he said it is the REPLACEMENT part that gets inspected, not the failed one.

In other words, DC knows there are problems with new pumps.

We bought 4 2003 3500 drw ho cummins at the same time, 2 had the lift pump go out before 100,000 and got covered under warrenty, 1 went at 106,000 so warrenty wouldn't cover it, mine is still ticking along but I have to wonder when I'll be left sitting for a week or two in the middle of nowhere waiting for the parts.

The last one took almost 2 weeks to get the new pump in and they refused to let him keep the old one to find out what had actually gone wrong with it.

None of these trucks has been modified at all.

Usually when its restricted and STAR has to be contacted is because its EXPENSIVE. It can't be had through the normal parts channel. The four years I was with a D. C. dealer it wasn't because STAR had to inspect the new one it was because of cost and or they were worried about diagnosis and did'nt want a $1k or $2k part etc. just being flung at a repair. It also might be THE TRACKING of said part due to a VENDOR who made said part and a discrepancy. But I never heard so they could inspect the NEW part. Always had to do about MONEY or MISDIAGNOSIS. :-{}
