Here I am

injecting diesel before the turbo???

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Just saw an '06 Mega Cab LWB Dually!!!!

Ford 7.8L

was at the track last night, and there was a guy in a 3rd gen w/ twins, a built automatic, the whole 9 yards... my buddy and I were checking out the truck, and he said, "yeah, the next thing I want to do is put nitrous on it"

I'm looking straight at a nitrous solenoid, and I say "uhh... what's that?"

"fuel"

"you mean methanol?"

"no, fuel... diesel... "

"you're just shooting diesel in there?"

"yeah, __________ in Florida did it for me"

so I take a look... they've got this thing plumbed IN FRONT of the big turbo!

now, I've seen what water injected BEFORE a turbo does to the compressor wheel... it errodes the heck out of it...

and uhh... isn't diesel in the intercooler sortof a bad thing? :-laf

he laid down 610rwhp on the portable dynojet someone brought up there, so it's making some power...

didn't run the times I thought it should, and it got slower as the night wore on... maybe needed to drain the diesel out of the intercooler??

That makes no sense to me. When you have diesel already in the cylinder under compression it will light off too soon, and violently. Great way to blow a head gasket, at the least. Vaughn

In front of the big turbo could only be one thing - propane. If one was to inject diesel there you would require an injector of some sort and a pump for pressure to obtain a burnable atomization @ which point why inject diesel before a turbo if there would be a high enough pressure to inject it were you wanted it - in the cyclinder a precise time. I strongly feel that if you did inject diesel pre turbo, no matter how strong your engine was you would most definatly destroy someting. Anyways I hope he's got a reciept when he needs an engine overhaul.

I'd sure be interested to know what happens.

actually a lot of the Ford guys are now trying out the "wet" systems as you described. Souunds terribly scary and harmful to the motor if you ask me.

Well as they say, desperate situations call for drastic measures :-laf

what will diesel do when it hits a turbo fin that is spinning at 100k rpms?

how will the diesel get through the intercooler?

wadda you do drain it every couple of hours?

When you spray water into the cold wheel, it has to be atomized correctly. I have seen wheels damaged by low pressure water. I have done this on tractors for years. Back to the diesel injection thing, A buddy of mine tried this on his NEW ford back in 2000. He actually injected after the turbo and cooler... . it was screaming and turning some big r's, until the motor came apart! Good thing it was under warranty! First and last time he tried that! But I guess you never know till you try.

Was it a black sport 3rd gen with PDR twins? If so, he goes by Black TX Thunder on Dodge Truck World. I noticed the solenoid in the pictures of his engine, too. It's just to the left of the oil fill cap on the front of the breather cover. What were his times in the 1/4? He said his best so far had been 13. 5s.

that's the truck...

that braided line off the nitrous fuel solenoid goes down to the inlet side of the big turbo...

truck was running 8. 5's in the 1/8 and got slower as the night progressed. I'm wondering if maybe he needed to drain the diesel from the intercooler :D

After going through the turbo and air to air,the fuel couldn't be properly atomized. Raw fuel in the cylinder gives you "cylinder wash". Bye bye rings and bore. :{ :{

All I know is that if I spent that kind of time and money to come up with that, and my truck only put out that horsepower, I'd be ******!
