My work truck (95 3500) is leaking fuel
at the throttle shaft where it enters injection pump. Makes it very hard to start every morning as it loses its prime overnight
. Help! Is there a known fix for this? Or, is
it time to price rebuilds? Anybody have any experience with this?

Dave if the rest of your pump is in good working order you can do one of two fixes.
1 replace the top cover with a new one.
2 remove the top cover & have your throttle shaft polished, then have a machine shop match up a new bushing & install it in your top cover along with a new o-ring. We fix quite a few that way. We also sell a reman pump thats set to 3000 rpm & 230 flywheel hp, or stock ones too.

Are you sure the fuel isn't leaking from the banjo fitting where it enters the pump? It's in the same vicinity, and they use those wonderful leak-prone plastic washers there. I would replace them with copper ones if that's where it is coming from. If not, Piers is the man to talk to. He does some quality pump work. #ad

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to take another look at it on monday to check the fuel line idea and also how much room their is to work down in pump area. Only 28K miles on it. Our mechanic wants to go for a rebuilt pump.

Are you sure that your pump is leaking fuel from the throttle shaft? Your '95 should have a P7100 pump. The throttle shaft goes into the governor housing which is lubricated with engine oil, not diesel fuel. A leak at the throttle shaft would be engine oil and shouldn't cause hard starting.

Duh, I wasn't paying attention, I was looking at your signiture and replied to a 91 problem. WD is right, a leak at the throttle shaft of a P7100 will only be engine oil & won't effect starting at all. And here I was wondering why you didn't post that question in the 1st gen. forum #ad

Dman,
Besides checking inlet tube on injector pump, see if your return fuel line(rubber part) is leaking it is behind govenor,or your return fuel valve mite be bad. These two things could cause hard starting, of course there are other possibilities also.
