Last week I noted that my Injection Pump had failed. It got replaced this morning. Star sent a re-manufactured pump. The tech told me that it is better than new, in his opinion, because a new one might have the same problems as the one he replaced. He said the re-man pump is gone through and upgraded. He hasn't seen a re-man pump return at this point.

The process is interesting and takes about an 1 1/2 hours. The drive belt is removed from the pump, the computer is removed and dropped down out of the way. There is very little room to remove the pump otherwise. Fuel lines disconnected. A puller is attached to the front of the pump to remove what I call a retainer for the pump. It took a large pry bar to break the pump loose from its mount and remove. Then reverse the process. My fingers are crossed.

Its a gear puller.

The pump is driven by a gear that runs off of the gear train inside of the gear housing.

It is not a belt driven pump.

Mine goes into as soon as the dealer gets the pump in. Could you could tell where the pump was leaking? Low pressure area? High pressure area? FCA?
