I am planning on changing my injection pump this weekend and I have downloaded a copy of the directions at http://www.nwbombers.com/membersites/kent/vp44.html

They are great but I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. On figure 6 he shows a Blue Chip Diesel Gear puller that I assume I will need to pull the drive gear off the old pump with. If I do need a puller and this works so nice does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks again.

Paul

You can use a Steering wheel puller also, that is what I use make sure you buy a good one with a short center bolt and get the metric bolts to go into the gear.

Craig

Before you pull on the gear leave the nut on the pump shaft but loose and near the end of the shaft so you don't "flare" the pump shaft. The intake gaskets are a crap shoot once they tear the next time they will not.

Good Luck

Thanks Dean and Craig. I really appreciate the help. It's great to find out about how things can go wrong without experiencing them. I am trying to track down my pump now. UPS has it and I am hoping they can get it to me this afternoon. I went on the Snap-on site to order the puller and see if I could get it over nighted. They were on back order. Looks like I will have to use the steering wheel puller. I will let you know how things go. I'm a little nervous about this.

Paul,

When I did my pump the gear is very tight and it seems like you will turn the bolt on the puller a long ways and then all of the sudden it will pop. Make sure the key way is at the top before removing the pump also.

Thanks Kevin,

This is the step that concerns me the most. I have had a little experience with pulling bearings and gears that are a prease fit. They can be difficult at times. I am assuming that the shaft nut is used to press the gear onto the new pump.
