Can anyone help me with a severly low powered 95 5 speed? It runs well, but this is without a doubt the worst cummins I have ever driven. Low power from day one. I mean bad. Its my buddies truck, and he doesnt want to stick a bunch of $$ in it.

Can anyone give me advice on tweeking the injection pump? (without blowing things up) I have better than average mechanical abilities, and probably better than average diesel knowledge when it comes to the newer 24valvers, but I havent worked on many fo the 12valvers.

So, can I do it, or leave it to a profesional?

Thanks, Jim

You can slide his stock plate forward all the way for a good power gain, and spin the star wheel forward also, but his fuel milage will drop a tad in the city. Go to www.tstproducts.com, and you will see a diagram of the AFC housing in the P7100 pump. With these pumps, movement toward the front of the motor will add power, movement toward the back, will cause a lose of power, go to the website and you will see what I am talking about. If I have you confused, just pm me.

Yes, by all means... guages are first! Then, make the most of what you already have: open up the intake and the exhaust. For $35 put on a BHAF, get out the sawzall and go to town on that stupid exhaust system... . now, doesnt that feel better?

Check the pump timing. It should be matched to the figures in the shop manual (about 12. 5 - 13. 0 degrees BTDC?) for stock setting. Mine had slipped to 10. 5 degrees BTDC, and the timing gear was pretty loose coming off the tapered shaft. Then advance the timing to about 15. 5 degrees BTDC; you should notice improved performance and fuel milage. Once that's settled, a plate and other goodies can also help. Worth repeating others' good advice: Get guages.

Steve is right on tract about the plate. At first all I was trying to do was get some mileage. At least he has a 5 speed. I would suggest these things. A set of gauges, pyrometer, and a boost gauge. A #5 plate for the standard, and a governor kit.

The only thing that I did that helped mileage was to set the timing to 15. 5 degrees. I think that my truck would run ok, it is hard to tell with a stock convertor. lol JImk
