Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Injection Pump??

A friend of mine has a 24v with some upgrades including some pretty large injectors. the other day he started having trouble with it idling rough and having unburned fuel(smoking grey) badly. He pulled the injectors and cleaned them. meanwhile he threw in some stockers and it idled and ran fine. he then put the big ones back in and the same problem occured. he also said it took a while to bleed the air out of the lines like the inj. pump is week. i told him i didn't know if it is a weak pump or sticking injector. anybody have that type of problem?

You might have your friend take the big injectors and find some that are the same and swap them and see if the problem is still there. Did the problem occur when you first put in the big injectors?? How many miles did you drive on the big injectors or did they start acting up from the get go?? I assume you have changed the fuel filter??

What about the fuel pressure. Does the truck run down the road o. k. ? Is the smokey/run rough sympton at idle or running down the road?

yeah, the filter has been changed, still occurs. that was the first thing i told him to change. the fuel pressure never gets below 12psi when your all over it. idles at about 17psi. it pops out the exhaust when the truck is to the floor. smokes grey pretty much all the time idling and driving.
