The wifes 05 is making a pinging noise on one cylinder when accelerating from a light and when pulling a easy hill at low speed. It really sounds like one cylinder. They did a reflash when it had about 1500 miles on it and the engine sounded louder than before. It now has 5500 miles on it and is only getting high 12s and low 13s for mileage. It has one cylinder that you can always hear that is different than the rest at idle and when driving, but it isn't missing. The mileage was around 14. 5 to 15 combo driving. I had the dealer listen to it and they said BAD FUEL. I have aways used HOWS since new and have added cetane boost along with HOWS and no change so I think that this completely eliminates the fuel issue. The dealer also thinks it may have a mild injector issue but told me it would have to get worse before they could find it. I have changed the fuel filter once and it looked great. I listened to an 04 yesterday and it just purred and was quite a bit quieter than the wifes. All the mileage is combo driving with no load?? Anyone have any ideas or sugestions . sorry no profile. . 2005 2500 auto 4wd and 91 w-250 cummins auto

Quit being Mr. Nice guy. Make em fix it
Well I am just trying to be patient since they helped with the buy back on my 04. They are going to take another listen to it Monday. I know they can narrow it down to just two.

This is common for people that don't use it hard enough. Mine did so too for about 1000 miles, and I used a fuel injector cleaner (Champion brand if you care, for both gassers and diesels. I hear Techron is best and it says you can use in Diesels) into half a tank to be more concentrated. I added a quart of ATF type F for lubricity, and drove it. I kept adding a quart of non-detergent 30W oil for a couple more tanks, and it has completely dissappeared for almost a year now. When I remember, I add some more 30W. Bosch says there is not enough lubricity to our Diesel fuel and it will get worse when it goes low sulphur in 06.

I use the Lube control FP-60 in mine. I add 6 ounces to 30 gals every third or fourth tank and i can tell the differance. I use power service the rest of the tanks. Seems to work for me and I have about 5K on my 05

It didn't start pinging until after the reflash and around 3000 miles or so, I flog it as much as possible. I have used HOWS since new and also add Power Service cetane boost and lube and makes no difference on ping. I always use about twice as much as needed.
