Injector buildup?

Just upgraded my injectors and my truck has 40k on it. My old injectors had a lot of buildup on them (carbon?). I'm concerned that maybe I'm not working my engine enough or getting bad fuel or something. I really hope I'm not getting that same buildup on my valves. Has anyone else who has done a replacement observed a lot of buildup on their old injectors? Any way to clean the combustion surfaces? As usual, thanks in advance.

Do you use any type of fuel additive?
I'm sure not an injector expert, would just like to know and maybe get the ball rolling here.

No additives... have used Exxon diesel almost exclusively.

I used Howe's fuel additive (find it at most truck stops) pretty much all the time in my '94. When went to larger injectors at 110k there was hardly any buildup and not much wear. I noticed better mileage with it as well.
I sell quite a bit of it at my truck stop, good stuff. They'll even pay your tow if you gel up while using it.

Vaman; You not only have that stuff on the valves but also in the ring langes and between the piston and cy wall. You are not working the unit hard enough for the amount of fuel it is getting or just plain over fueling. Gine it a good heavy dose of additive ( Howes or stanadyne are good ) and pull some thing heavy at hyway speeds for a couple hundred miles. Driving or racing around town and spiking egt's does not burn the carbon out, it just turns it into coke which will score cy walls, siez rings and cause carbon knock and hot spots that will cause predetonation.

Too much idling, especially in cold weather, will do it. The combustion chamber gets too cool and the fuel doesn't burn well.

I also believe build up happens if you done get on it very often. I try to put the hammer down at least once a day. (some time alot more #ad

The first time during the day that I get on it it seems to smoke more then than the rest of the day.

Vaman, Marvel is a good lubricity additive, and has a good detergent package for something that doesn't combust. Leaves heavy ash and particulates when ignited (even heavier deposites on the nozzle tip and piston crown than normal)... T

I use Lucas diesel additive and the truck runs alot better on it, and no problems during the cold winter days starting it.

I'm really torn on this MMO thing. I've heard complaints about almost every additive out there. One guy using MMO said he's used it for years and every time he tears down an engine, it's squeaky clean. Bottom line is, I've got a lot of buildup and I need some type of detergent additive. Still don't know which one is best (really paranoid about what to put in my baby). Thanks again for everyone's input.
