OK, what should I have for an injector change, the truck has 131,000 miles on it? I figure the intake horn gaskets, a valve cover gasket because I think mine is leaking in the rear. Do I need to change the copper gaskets under the injectors? What about the ones shown in the parts list for the connector tubes? It looks like there may be another gasket or o-ring on the injector, should that get changed too? I am putting in some used injectors in a higher mileage truck, what is normally recommended. By the way it's my truck listed in my signature.

When I got my used injectors I looked at the o-rings on the injectors and saw no nicks/damage so I didn't get them. The copper washers had just a little soot on them but no depressions so they went in. I did get 7 connector tube o-rings and didn't need any of them. I did tear the lower grid heater gasket, I just made one from some gasket material, dealer was out of stock. My luck is that if I don't have it on hand I'll need it, that murphy character at work.

I've had 4 sets of different injectors in mine and never changed a valve cover gasket or grid heater/intake horn gasket. i have done new copper washers on one set of injectors, not on the other three. I did new orings on the injectors on one set too. Never changed o-rings on fuel tubes.

I'd say get new copper washers and maybe orings but that's about all I would do.

Tim--

Try some Hylomar on the intake grid gasket. It seals well and keeps it from sticking (and tearing).

Hope they work well for you!

OK injectors are in and I didn't end up changing a thing because Cummins NE was closed when I could get there, I do need to change the valve cover gasket though because I know that leaks.

First impressions, I can leave my Comp box off which used to be on 3x3 or higher all the time. She'll smoke with just the injectors but not too bad. With the box on 5x5 it looks like an old coal fired steam engine putting out full power. She's definantely quicker and EGT's will go higher than I've ever had them real easy.

Now for a question, I used the DD directions and it started just like they said, it took a little cranking, I ran the truck about ten miles and then shut it down and it was off for about 20-30 minutes, when I went to start it I had to crank for about 10-15 seconds for it to start, has anyone else seen this and does it go away after a little bit or do I have an internal leak? If I only shut the truck down for a couple minutes it starts right up as normal.

I would leave it go for a few days. Sometimes air takes a while to get completely worked out. If it goes on past a week, go over your install again. Mine did that on the 1st set of injectors and it took 3 days of normal driving until it would start right up after sitting.

Thanks Oil Burner, that's what I was thinking. The second start after sitting for 30 minutes was perfect so maybe I'm good to go, thanks for the input.

Just an update, I had the slow start happen 3 or 4 times total and it hasn't happened since so I guess it's pretty normal just like Oil Burner said. Thanks guys.
