I was at my local auto parts store yesterday and saw some bottles of diesel injector cleaner and some were cetane boost/injector cleaner. My question is are these worth buying or do they have any harmful effects? My truck has 126,000 miles on it and I want to make sure it is running clean.

Thanks for any help. :)

I use it once in a while. Power and economy are up just slightly during use, and it is claimed to meet specifications of diesel manufacturers so I hope it works. I see it on sale once in a while and buy a couple bottles. Long term effect of using it? I really don't know, I have never known long enough in advance I was going to change injectors to have a chance to treat the fuel thoroughly and see if they look different when they come out.

injector cleaners

What I do is when changing the fuel filter is fill the filter with about 90% cleaner and when it starts up rev it to about 1100 rpm untill the cleaner is gone , this way you get the injectors really clean. I am not sure by putting cleaner in a full tank of fuel that the effects would be effective as getting fuel from a major truck stop where the fuel is always fresh as compared to a local station where fuel doesn't move as fast which in that case a additive might be in order from time to time. I have over 550. 000 miles on my truck and still have the original injectors and no signs of failure. stormy

I use LUCAS injector cleaner and Power Service Cetane boost (supposedly boosts cetane by 8 points) I can tell the difference when i have mixed the crap in my fuel and when i haven't... . with the power service i get less smoke and a little more pep in the engine..... the lucas burns hot hot hot for super clean injectors... . i have 103,000 prob-free miles while using this stuff... .

Howes injector cleaner works very well also. Have used this the last year. Previously have used Cummins injector cleaner, but I feel Howes rates an A+. Have only been able so far to find it at Flying J truck stops.

Chuck.

I also use LUCAS oil stabilizer... 100% pure petroleum... ... we use it in all the big trucks where i work... good stuff but dont use to much as it raises oil pressure a litl and you could blow some seals:D
