OK, got a buddy at work I am helping out. He wants to be in the 400-425 range. Already got him a BD Super B turbo, so thats covered. Already planned on a Comp, so got that. What about sticks? Without bashing, who makse a good set of injectors. Why? Better milage/power/heat/smoke? Guy is not huge on the smoke out a city block thing, and would be ok with no smoke at all. I'll show him how to adjust that when we are done.

Anyone had experiences with -

Diesel Dynamics?

Dons?

Edge Jammers?

Industrial Injection?

Schied?

Any others I have missed.

Thanks a bunch and see you guys around!

From what I have seen, Don's are the best ones out there, low smoke, great power, good mileage, just expensive! I just bought a set of 1. 6's to go along with my Catcher, will have them in the motor in a couple weeks.

I've run DDIIs, DD Supermentals and Jammer 4s. Jammers had the least amount of smoke for the power. They were good injectors. I have never run Don's stuff so I can't give an opinion. The honed DD injectors, like my supermentals, get a little smokey and hot but I drive around the heat with my 6 speed and I can control the smoke. If you don't want to worry about that, then I would go with an EDM injector.

If he doesn't want much smoke on normal driving, I would go with something around 80 to 100 hp in an edm injector (Jammer 2s or even 3s). I would guess Don's injectors around a mach 1. 5 to a mach 2 would fill that hole nicely as well.

Need more data - what is the specifics on your work buddies truck? Stock? Stick or Auto. 4 X 4. If he wants to be in the 4-425 range there are plenty of things that will get him there quickly. Question is - is he prepared to do what is required to allow him to be there with out braking every time he puts his foot down? Let us know more of the specifics and then we can better "knowledgably" point to the goodies.

Its a 2500 4x4 QC SWB that will have a built auto in it in about 6 weeks. So, no worries there. 3. 55 gears, tows 14K lbs occasionally. That was why we figured on the comp, adjustability, especially with injectors. There are just too many choices in injectors, I don't know which ones to get him. I had a comp on my 02 and it worked great, so he'll like that. Its not that he doesn't want smoke, but he could care less if there is lots. He understands that he will have some. I think his turbo should be perfect for his target hp. That super B is a good little unit.

I run stock injectors that I had the hydraulic honing done to. He said they're now at Stage 2 and is about a 80-100 horse increase. I dont know the exact power putting to the ground yet because it hasnt been dyno'd. I love the added power though. It takes off great, and rolls fairly good smoke when you get on it, but a turned up 12 valve could still smoke me out Im sure. Mileage is questionable, Im either on gravel roads farming, or stop-go driving here at college in the city. 16 in town, 17-18 in the country, 20-21 on highway. Been thinking about a Edge Comp or EZ, supposedly will help mileage.

I run dd2s on my 01 ho and they suck(for a $600 injector set), granted i bought them used for about $80. Lots of smoke, even with hx 40, rough/stuttery clutch engagment, but i did see a bit of economy increase with a light foot. My next set of sticks will be edm injectors from Don or City Diesel( great prices from City Diesel btw) with a mad ecm, screw the comp box, i want reliability.

Ive run dd2, dd3, supermental, Mach4, and now Mach 4. 5. I would go with the Machs. my truck idles better with the machs than it did with the stock injectors. With the honed injectors, my idle got more and more lopey as the size went up. I cant figure that out, but thats what happened. I would think a mach 2 (100hp) would get 400hp easy, and i would imagine would be very smoke friendly.

Contact Rip - he will steer you in the right direction - I was told to go w/Mach 1. 6s & Comp box w/mine. I did some questioning on TDR and got back some really good answers. After which I "thought" I was going to get some Mach 4s until I called Rip and learned that w/my present turbo I'd probably hurt something if I went w/4s w/o changing turbos and some other stuff that I'm not prepared to yet. So, call Rip and explain the whole 9 yards to him - he'll give it to you straight.

Don's Mach 4s, Comp, and PDR35/12 gave me 440HP.

Don's Mach 3's, EZ, and PDR35/12 gave me 382HP.

I am obviously in need of more air as I cannot fully clear the smoke. EGTs are controllable.

Hey Dave, I've got Mach 2's , stock HX35/12 and the comp on 5x5, and mine is the same way, controllable EGT's but I can't seem to clear the smoke at WOT.

It's not a big problem but I thought if your seeing smoke you should be seeing high EGT's, right?.

This had me wondering if my probe was wacky.

I worried about the sane thing. But after trying a used known good probe and another out of the box new one, I got exactly the same readings. This is with 2 IssPros and an Autometer.

If I have my boat in tow on 5x5, I can bury the pyro. Or, if it's above 70 degrees, same thing. The cam helped a bunch on the top end for EGT relief. If it's cool out, like this evening, I can stand my foot into it and will NOT see 1250 until I hit close to 100mph+. On hot days, that is reduced to 75mph or so.
