Hey Common-Railers, my dads 04. 5 is acting up. Truck is an 04. 5, 4wd, nv 5600... BONE stock. Took it to the dealership, and found out that the lift pump is bad. This is covered by warranty, and they're changing it to an in tank unit. Also, the Injector Harness banks 2, 4, and 6 are shorted high low (service writers exact words). <--- not covered in warranty.

My question is, how difficult is it to replace the harness banks? They want to charge $570 to do the labor.

What pisses me off; The prick says that in order to warranty the in tank lift pump, they have to charge me $75 to change the fuel filter!! I told him I had a fleetguard waiting at home for it, and he goes off on a rant about how I should only put Mopar filters in it! Sorry just had to let off some anger... #@$%!

Thanks, Buck

Hey Bob! So does fleetguard make the Mopar filter?

Also, are the injectors a problem with the CR's? How do you figure out if the injectors are faulty?

Why wouldn't the harness be covered under warranty? The truck can not run without it and it's a part of the engine system.

The harness is pretty easy to replace. Just take off the valve cover and then take off all the 8mm nuts to the injectors. The harness itself will have 6(i think) 10mm bolts holding it on. If I was you I would check the resistance of all the injectors. One injector having too much resistance could shut down a whole bank. They are not to have more than 1 ohm and if one does than thats under warranty.

Mopar reboxes the fleetguard fuel filters. Most bosch shops will test the inj's out of the truck for about 15$ ea

Thanks guys, sorry for the late post. Anyways, the injector harness sounds pretty easy to change, but to check the resistance of the injectors do I have to pull them out? Or should I pull them out anyways and like Bob says take em to a Bosch shop? If so, are they pretty easy to pull? I've only pulled the injectors on my 12 valve. Thanks, Buck

They are pretty easy to pull. Just be sure you do every thing in the correct order, and on reinstall pay attention to detail.

Bob

No you dont have to pull the injectors to check the resistance, just make sure that the harness is disconnected from the injector. Having that code im thinking that its the harness or one injector with too much resistance, but with common rail injectors its never a bad idea to have them checked.

Brought the truck home to do the harness. Turns out they won't honor the warranty on fuel related issues anymore because we didnt let them fix it! Really frustrates me. So does that mean if one of the injectors is bad that they wont warranty it? How is that... they deemed the harness as electrical, not covered under warranty, but they wont honor fuel related issues because we chose to fix electrical ourselves? Kinda leaving us nowhere to turn. I'll never go back there. I'll take it up to Riverside.

Anyways, I'm assuming that the harness is OEM only?

PM me the last 8 of the vin,I am betting it is a bluff. If you do find it needs the rear harness let me know I think I have one floating around somewhere
