Injector Hold down Bracket Question

Guys I just put in a set of Bullydog Step 2's yesterday. All went well. Just have one question. When I Torqued down the hold down clamps( Bracket) I was unable to get at the bolts that are only loosed(The ones iunder the rocker arms) with my Torque wrench, so I hand tightened them down to a guess & then torqued down the others to 89 in lbs a specified. Is this an OK method? Or should I pull the cover & use some other method? to get at the other bolt & Torque it down exact?

PS. The Power is SWEEEEEET! Our little dog, who normally rides perched on top of the folded down center seat found herself in the back seat when I got on it the first time. :eek: :eek: :D :D
 
did you loosen those ????

you didn't/don't loosen the inner ones , just pull the out bolt and it slides out , slide the holder back in and tighten the bolt you removed to 89 inch/lbs ...
 
Yes those inner ones were loosend, but not removed. They were retightened to a guess of 89in lbs (my experianced wrist) then the outer ones were thightened to 89inlbs exact by my clicker torque wrench.
 
What MM is saying is that you don't have to loosen or remove the inner bolts - just remove the outer ones and the hold-down piece slides out.
 
Ok now I know that I don't have to , but I did. We are talking past tense here, a job already done. My point is, should I pull the cover & figure out how to exact torque the inner bolts or is what I did suffice?Thanks for the input:)
 
that is a good question. the only thing I could add is, take it back apart, then loosen the bolts in question up until the brakets can be slid in and out of them fairly easily.



that is how it should have come apart. so if you can duplicate that, and then put it back together, and torque only the ones you can get to. :D



the only thing it could hurt is if the brackets arent level and are not holding the injector in evenly. or worse case they are too tight and ? who ? knows ?.



did you wiggle the injectors to get the tubes lined up before tightening them down ?. that is someting else to be careful of. :D

Your description of what to do regarding the hold down brackets is pretty much what I did. I think I'll leave well enough alone & re Check sometime when I get some extra time to fiddle (ie: when my wife has to work the weekend:rolleyes: :)
 
cullyguy, if you used the tighten by feel method, as long as you had some amount of force to tighten it, and torqued the outer bolt, you're probably safe. They don't need that much torque.
 
The inner bolts are not really meant to be torqued down. The inner bolt serves as a hinge, the head of the bolt serves as a hinge and height adjustment. The top of the injector actually serves as a fulcrum, the hold down bracket being the lever. As you torque down the outer bolt to proper spec, the hold down bracket should rest flat on top of the injector to create an even force straight down. If the inner bolt is too tight you'll actually be pushing the injector at a diagonal outwards. If it is too loose, you'll be pushing the injector towards the inside. A straight down pressure must be maintained by the top bracket.
