JBoesl:

I would say the same as you used when they were taken out. Cept this time use a torque wrench for the injector retainer nut.

Have you got a puller? One post recently said use a nut that fits the top of the injector, a couple 1/2" washers, and a piece 3/4" of metal conduit. (I'd bet that 3/4 copper pipe works too)

After the lines and nuts are off, the pipe slips over, then washers, then snug the nut until they pop loose.

I haven't actually done it yet, and this is a condensed version from memory. (In other words, it may be as useless as some my recent posts:D ) Do a search. There's a lot of info out there.

Jason, I have done just what you want to do. I took one of my 215 injectors to the hardware store with me and found a nut to fit the top, it's metric.

After taking the injector lines off(pump side too) and return lines and injector retaining nut, use a pry bar against the nut and a head bolt as the fulcrum. This works real slick. You will need a pry bar with about a 30 degree angle at the end.

Injector Puller

Use 3/4" E. M. T. (electrical metallic tubing [thinwall conduit]). Cut it to 1-3/16" long. Use a tubing cutter to get the ends parallel.

Kroil+vibration=easy removal. Worked for me with 150K. A copper bar works great to bump them around a bit... no hard slamming just light sharp hits.

I did not remove the injectors from the 96 5-speed, they were sent to me from another TDR member.

I have never removed a injector before, do I have to get anything else, (washers etc. Injector install kit from Piers).

Thanks,

Jason

Sorry Jason :

First take all the injector lines off as a unit. Lay them aside and keep them clean. The injectors will come out useing a flat type vice grips. The type that will be flat when mated to the flat side of the injector. With the right hand move the injector back and forth very slightly and with the right, grip the bottom of the injectors, and with the hand on the engine and sqeeze the injector out. There is a dimple in the block for a fit with ball retainer on the injector. Once that come past the indention, out she comes.

The fuel return lines will need to be removed and the U clips replaced. I had a hard time getting those not to leak. Everything else you can see all that needs to be done.

Good luck.

Don't forget to wash off around the injectors to remove ant dirt or even use wd40 or something & blow the dirt off w/air b4 you start working.

have fun

Ask Piers to include a set of instructions when you get the install kit. Get a set ffrom Joe D. and between the two of them you will have the hot set up.

I just did mine a second time and it went much better than the first time. Using the antisieze like Joe suggests allows it to come apart better the next time.

The tool I used was a small slide hammer made from a bolt about 6" long the same size as the injectors, a nut the same thread and a long nut that is larger in diameter than the bolt. Locktite the nut halfway on the end with the large nut trapped on the bolt. thread the nut on the injector and use the nut as a slide hammer. Works pretty good, especially under the cowl.
