Installing SFI Flex Plate

When installing new injectors can I bleed off one injector at a time, pull it out and install new one,and then start up engine without priming or do I have to bleed off all injectors install and then reprime all at same time?

TIA

Ron, I don't under what you mean by bleed off one injector at a time then put it out etc. . ? I'm sure you can do one at a time, but I've never had a problem with pulling them all, replacing them all, tighten 5 out of 6 inj lines, then crank, get fuel from loose line, tighten, go to next one, repeat etc. . after about the 3rd or 4th inj line, the engine usually will start and run rough, clear up etc, but I usually go and bleed them all again with engine running, do it fast as your hands can get warm near the exhaust manifold  .

You are going to find it's easier to pull a few valve covers, remove the necessary injection line clamps, remove the lines from the nozzles and pull out ALL the injectors.

By removing the approporiate valve covers allows you to pull the lines off the nozzles and move the line off to the side with out having to BEND the line at the valve cover or line clamp.

Now that you have two or three valve covers off... ... ... ..... pull all of them and adjust your valves too.

Scott,

Why do you remove valve covers to install injectors?

I've done a few sets and never removed a valve cover.

RSeymon... R&R all the injectors at once... . then just bleed out one or two injectors... . it will fire up and run rough for 5 seconds or so like Bill described...

Then check for leaks

Then go burn up some #2:D

I find that when I pull the lines off the injector(s) it will only raise straight up. The line passes through two valve covers and has near zero axial play. In other words I'd have to bend the line to clear the way for the nozzel pull. So, I simply pull the two adjacent valve covers and the line(s) will now move about in any direction with-out interference from any obstruction.

The Cummins FSM tells us to remove the lines from the engine to R&R the injector(s). Simply R&R-ing a couple valve covers is much easier. I feel comfortable working with more access room than without.

It also gives me the perfect oportunity to check valve lash and do a complete overhead if I feel it's needed.

As a side note, I find that the line MUST be in PERFECT register to the nozzel to avoid a leak or miss-fire. Any bending of a line is a risk I'm not going to take.

Some folks have wonderful luck by taking short-cuts. I haven't had the same fortune and now play things safe as opposed to sorry.

So you've been reading the FSM eh? I guess you skipped the chapter that says... "Don't mess with the fuel pump adjustments?" :-laf :-laf :-laf

And we're glad you did!!! Oo.

Well... ... ... ... ... ... Actually, it said "something" 'bout the fuel pump is to be serviced by "FACTORY" trained personel ONLY!

Heck, I USED to work in a factory, so that meakes ME qualified. Oo. :-laf ;) :-{} :p
