I've been searching for the past three days it seems to try and find some decent injector installation instructions. I recieved my 370s today and I also got the install kit from CityDiesel... . I'm slightly confused with all of it. If anyone could post some detailed instructions that would be much appreciated.
In a previous issue of the TDR magizine (probably before you joined) there was a write up I believe by Joe Donnelly with instructions how to remove/install injectors on all three geneartions of engines.
Many members have installed new injectors may be one or two will chime in.
Yeah I read one post that said issue 51 but it referenced 39?... Having just joined last month I haven't been able to get a hold of these. I'm going to try in the morning with the help of my dad and see how things go though.
You can make a puller with a piece of pipe. I think a lug nut fits the injector threads. Cut the pipe to the right length and use the lug nut to pull the old injector. Use the . 020" thick copper washers for your 370s. Make sure the hole is clean and the little ball is lined up correctly. I haven't done this in a while so I may have forgot something. I made a little slide hammer to pull the injectors, but others have used the lug nut method and report good results.
Like TGroves said. There should be TDR members close to you that would help. Let me see if I can scan an older set of instructions from Diesel Dynamics I have.
I live in Delta, Utah. There was a TDR member that lived here that could help but he's gone on a mission and now his brother has his truck. Me and his brother are best friends and he had to work this morning or he'd be helping me with the install.
i remove all the fuel lines. take a lug off a wheel and thread it onto the injector. take a small pickle fork and place it under the lug nut and gently tap down with a hammer. you want to pry off the head bolts so the fork is lifting the injector out. this has worked great numerous times for me. make sure you replace all your copper washers too. there cheap but anoying if you have to go back in and swap cause of a leak.
Me and my dad did the swap this morning using the lug nut method... amazing how well it worked. Overall the truck runs good with no chugging in the lower RPMs. I just used the priming button and didn't have to bleed one injector. I loved the start up. The rough idle was the neatest sound haha. Thanks for all the help guys.
Spend some time & get the injector wells perfectly clean.
I had a diesel performance shop which I wont name, install 215 HP injectors as my first mod because I was gun-shy about doing them myself at the time.
Well the idiot installer that must have hated working for the shop didn't clean the injector wells at all, dropped the injectors in on top of the crud and called it done. The truck never idled smooth. Pulled the injectors a few years later for some DD III's, and saw the copper sealing washers had lots of crud underneath them. They sealed all right, but the tips never sat deep enough (perhaps . 010+ high) into the chamber. No wonder It never ran right. Man I was mad!
Use paper towel, Brake cleaner, a screwdriver, a wire brush if they need it shop air ect. and get the wells clean like a brand new head.

WOW That is a really slick idea! When I did mine I grabbed onto the two flat spots towards the top of the injector with a pair of vice grips and yanked with all my worth. Probally not good for the injector, but they wern't gonna be re-used anyways.
Get you a 3/4" close pipe nipple like the one in the pic. They're less than a dollar at most hardware stores. Drop it over the injector and then screw your lug nut on top until the injector is loose. Easier on you and the injector than a pry bar.
